“AUTHENTIC Mexican in St. Paul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

How can I get started?!

I have eaten at El Burrito Mercado many times on and off for over 20 years....this visit today was just the latest.

This is a true Mexican Market, but it is punctuated by an old-fashioned "line cafeteria" that serves primarily the local Mexican population in the District del Sol in St. Paul. Come here at the end of a work day and you will see the lines of young, single Mexican men who work long hours for landscapers, or as laborers, come in for their evening meal...looking to fill their bellies. If you do the same, you will not be disappointed.

For $6, you can have a quesadilla to die for, made to order, with meat or NOT. You can have a platter, or a complete meal....it is all wonderful and extremely inexpensive.

My husband and I had the quesadilla, and I also had a single taco, completely jammed with ingredients cooked in the traditional style. The tastes are completely authentic, and the cost is miniscule.

Don't miss this opportunity to eat AUTHENTIC Mexican.

When I used to live in Minnesota, there was nothing better on a cold winter day than to come to the Mercado for lunch. To be surrounded by Spanish, and to taste these incredible foods, was always wonderful to the MAX.

Enjoy!

“Very fun, reasonably priced cafeteria & a great grocery store”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This is going to sound a bit wierd - but this is very much worth going to not only for the food you'll eat (which is quite good ). It is directly attached to a very fun grocery store with lots of Mexican food you can take home, wonderful baked goods, pinatas and other authentic "stuff." Lots of very reasonably priced lunch platters - quesadilla platter, $7.35 (with rice & beans and 2 yummy chicken quesadillas), burrito platter (same price), tomales platter, $7.50, etc.

they have GREAT deserts for .99 and up in the bakery case right night to the cafeteria line,

You go through a line or they have a little fancier restaurant where they wait on you.

Kids will love this place cause there is so much to see and with the cafeteria line you get food instantly. Did I say this is darn good food? Did I say this place is fun?

Very good for quick business lunch. Very good with kids. Very good with friends. Very good!

Strongly recommended.

“Reliable and authentic Mexican”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

I dig on the burrito platters, with refried beans and traditional rice. I usually get the carne asada, although they tend to run out of the meat at the end of the day. Definitely notches above Chipotle. Family run with a sit-down option if you want it.

“Like stepping into Mexico!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Walkiing into this palce is like walking into a shop in a larger city in Mexico only wiht American products and translations! The food is spectacular with a wide variety of specials that can be prepared for you or a variety of baked goods and other items from the deli or supermarket.

Great authentic supplier of groceries and ingredients and meals in cafeteria style. Well worth a visit just to see the variety of food and gifts. Definately a place to see.
