“Gets an extra star from me for funkiness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

I only spent one night here, but was charmed. My room had a separate sitting room, and a full complement of dishes - real wine glasses, plates, silverware. I had a very nice take-out meal in my room. Not eating off Styrofoam with plastic utensils can make a difference! Bathroom was tiny, tiny, but it's not a place I spend a lot of time. It was very clean. The furniture has obviously seen better days. Give this old-world style hotel a try!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during jazz fest. It was just a short walk to Mears Park where the main stage was for the concert was located. I loved the retro look and old time luxury feel the hotel had. The rooms were very clean and well appointed with dark new furniture. The entire place had this European feel to it, right down to the breakfast in the morning. Parking was in the ramp across the street, and considering parking in the cities, I didn't think the location was too bad although it would have been nice to get more of a parking discount.
Everyone was eager to please, including the maintenance man we met in the elevator, who wanted to know and to make sure everything mechanically was in order. Yes, everything was! Would stay here again when choosing a hotel in downtown St. Paul. Thank you Hoterl340 for a great experience.

We chose this hotel so that we could attend the nearby Jazz Festival! There is not much going on in the evening in the vicinity.
The place is smelly and dark. The AC is train station level noisy.
The Continental Breakfast is ok but the room needs an attendant to keep it clean. Some basics such as napkins and replenishing supplies would be good.
Next time we will have to try the Saint Paul!

We hosted a group of colleagues from around the country - 14 different states. They all had good things to say about their rooms and the front desk staff. The lobby and attached bar was a gorgeous location for our informal welcome gathering on the first night of the conference. Our guests were able to get a true feel for downtown St. Paul being so close to the river and downtown parks and attractions. Very affordable rates.

Hotel 340 was an excellent experience. We had a little trouble finding the place, however, once we walked through the door we were pleasantly surprised. The architecture is unique, beautiful and our room was incredible! Every detail was perfect! It is not your cookie cutter hotel, it has personality, and history! Helpful, friendly, welcoming staff that provided excellent customer service! We are looking forward to staying at Hotel 340 for future events that we attend at the XCEL Center!

Got a great price for this hotel downtown. Lobby was interesting but dark - wished it was lighter. Room was small but sufficient for an overnight stay. A bit shabby, but for the price it was fine. Loved that it was close to a great walking trail along the river. Staff was helpful.

I debated between giving the hotel an average or very good review. If it were not for the helpful, friendly staff, I would rank the hotel average. Don't be fooled by the professional photos. I found the hotel very dark and depressing in the common areas, especially the lobby and eating area. The rooms however were bright and clean. We stayed in two different rooms and both were nice. The area around the hotel seemed sketchy, not being from the area I do not know if this is true or not. Parking a half block from the hotel was nice and we were provided a discount in and out rate which was nice. Another note, the help was friendly but also often "absent" from both the front desk and we never saw anyone in the dining area.
