“Great experience at Kahler Grand Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

I attended a convention in Rochester and booked a room at the Kahler Grand Hotel. I travel frequently so I've seen it all. I was in one of the remodeled rooms and it was quite comfortable. I received a group discount and the price was consistent with a moderate hotel in a mid-sized city. The layout was decent and the room temperature was constant - no need to adjust the thermostat a million times! The wi-fi was dependable and the fact that it was free is a real plus for travelers needing internet access. Attached parking was convenient and safe and the central location was ideal.

Room Tip: Ask for the newly remodeled section.

My stay at the Kahler Grand Hotel before and after my surgery at the Mayo Clinic was excellent. It is right across the street. The management quickly brought whatever I needed to make myself comfortable after leaving the hospital. Room service was prompt. The room, particularly the bed, were quite comfortable. Parking was free.

The Kahler Grand is a reasonably priced hotel in the heart of Rochester, attached to the Mayo Clinic. The building and rooms are definitely aging, with some of the fixtures showing their age. But it is clean and comfortable, so it's not a let down. Their getaway specials are a very good deal, too. There are lots of restaurant options in the hotel and nearby, so it's very convenient. the staff is very friendly and professional. The check in was quick and efficient, yet not dismissive. Overall, I'd say that if you're on a budget and need to be in Rochester, particularly near the Mayo Clinic, or if you're interested in staying in a historic hotel, the Kahler Grand is the perfect option (you can get cheaper rooms elsewhere, but none so convenient). But if you want to spend a bit more for a fancier hotel with new rooms, look elsewhere.

I don't recommend this hotel unless you need to be really close to the Mayo Clinic. The rooms are run down and need major updating. If they updated it I think it would be a decent hotel then. I didn't feel comfortable in this hotel room. It is definitely not worth the price of it because there are so many better hotels in the area for the same price. Most hotels in Rochester have a free shuttle to bring you to the Mayo Clinic. Don't be fooled by the good reviews for this hotel like I was.

I have been visiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for many years. I have stayed at several hotels in Rochester, but I have settled on the Kahler Grand Hotel as my favorite. If you are going to the Mayo Clinic, you will be only fifty steps from the Kahler front door to the Mayo front door. All of the ameneties of the Kahler are there for all customers, whether paying for the least expensive room or the most expensive suite. One of the special "perks" is the attached Kahler parking deck, which is no additional charge to guests. The Kahler is the center of downtown Rochester, and the underground "tunnel" system, combined with the above ground "bridge" system, gives you access to all of Rochester downtown in all kinds of weather. If you like the "old" style hotels, like the Palmer House in Chicago and the Pfister in Milwaukee, you'll love the Kahler Grand.

Room Tip: It is a very large hotel. If you have any kind of disability, ask for a room near one of the many e...

My sister was recently at the Mayo Clinic for testing. She did end up being admitted to St. Mary's hospital for 5 days. We stayed at the Kahler from Monday through Friday and my sister was admitted to the hospital on Friday. It was a very stressful time made less stressful being able to return to a clean comfortable room after long days of tests. The staff are so helpful from the front desk personnel to the housekeeping staff. Especially helpful was Diane, Dave and Brandi. Rim our housekeeper was efficient and attentive to our every need. It was especially nice to have a refrigerator and microwave in our rooms. Our experience was made so much more bearable by being just across the street where all her testing took place. We will definitely be staying at the Kahler again!!!

Room Tip: end of the hall rooms seem larger but it is a walk from the elevator

I am priviledged to visit the Mayo Clinic. Over the years I have stayed at many different places - until I discovered the Kahler. Wow what a difference. Great service from staff. The Kahler has numerous options for the value buyer (some with parking included). I walk across the street to the Mayo Clinic entrance, or use the under ground system. Even when the weather is horrible, I have access to the skywalk so I can get around downtown Rochester. My last visit I was in an economy king that also had a microwave, and refrigerator. This was ideal - I had everything I needed to support a liquid diet plus a comfortable bed, nice desk, wifi (to stay connected to business) and thrive during tests. The Kahler met all my needs...and I will stay there on my next visit. A great place to call home for your Mayo visit.

Room Tip: The Kahler has many room options. For me the economy king was not huge, but ideal for this visit...
