“Excellent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

If you are visiting the Mayo clinic this is one of the best hotels with respect to location. Centrally located in walking distance of all the various Mayo buildings. The Marriott has an outdoor area called DEN serving snacks/drinks; this was very convenient and comfortable (some seating had nice cushioned couches and in the shade as a plus!). Drinks and food were very good. The hotel itself is pretty much standard Marriott venue. Room was clean, quiet, and well maintained. Indoor pool a tad small; wouldn't be able to swim laps. The fitness equipment was in good shape, each machine had it's own TV monitor, and best of all, there was no music piped into the workout room; you could enoyably listen to your ipod w/o any sound interference. Only negative is they charge $9.99 for 24 hours of wifi. Skip it and go find a Starbuck's or other free wifi spot; plenty around Rochester.

This hotel was not quite up to par with other Marriotts I have visited, but it was still very very good. I have been here twice related to Mayo Clinic visits.

If you are visiting the Mayo Clinic, go no further. Parking at the Mayo Clinic is not a fun experience, so it might be better for you to do an overnight at this hotel and to just walk to the clinic the day of your appointment. It is only a five minute walk - very convenient.

The rooms are a little overpriced for the location (semi-rural Minnesota,) but still very clean and nice. The room service and in-house restaurant were excellent. The desk people were very polite and professional as well.

If you need medical supplies, there is a drugstore nearby, or if you want to go out and look around, there are quite a few interesting shops. There is a very nice Barnes & Noble nearby to check out that I would especially recommend.

Overall, I'd say worth it. For proximity to the Mayo Clinic, you may also want to explore the Kahler Grand as an option, though I've never been there.

Room Tip: Unless you really want to take advantage of the concierge lounge, I would advise skipping it.

This was a repeat trip to this hotel. Last time it was fine, although a bit overpriced.
I arrived, booked into a "Pure Room" with Concierge Access.
The place was a madhouse..cars parked in the entire entry area, a sense of chaos at the Front Desk.
I was told there was no Pure Room available. No "I'm sorry".
I parked my own car, and there was NO signage on how to get back to the hotel. They have you park in the Kahler lot and it is a longish but confusing walk back.
Then my key didn't work. Back to the front desk where I was told the key machine was broken. No "I'm sorry". I was loudly asked what my room number was. (This happened several times-- last I heard you don't announce your room number in the hotel lobby)
The room was fine. Comfortable white bedding which looked and smelled clean. Flat screen TV. Bathroom was OK with good lighting in the clean shower, but no makeup mirror and low lighting over the vanity. Basic, fine amenities. The room and bathroom were clean other than some obvious staining on the sofa and chair. (photo).
This is one of those hotels in which the room temp will be whatever the hotel chooses. The thermostat means nothing. It was too hot every night.
Went out, came back, the key didn't work. At this point I was in the lounge so the attendant called to have a key brought up. Never happened. Went down to get it myself. Again asked to announce room number. No "I'm sorry." This key issue happened at least 4 times. Not once was there an apology.
The Concierge Lounge had quite passable food, although they charge for wine and alcoholic drinks at dinner. The evening attendant was nice, and there was enough seating and enough food to make a light dinner. This is a well designed Concierge Lounge.
At breakfast the food quality was good, although 2 out of 3 mornings they ran out of coffee. Really????? They also had trouble keeping fruit and silverware available.
This hotel also charges for parking and internet which will add considerably to your bill.
In summary, the hotel is nice with a couple of issues, the main one being a severe lack of training in basic customer service.
Looks like I'm back at the Doubletree next time!

No parking (at least not free), no included breakfast and nothin out o the ordinary in this hotel to be worth $120 a night. I've stayed at many hotels in many locations and this hotel is definitel overpriced. I'd pay no more than 80-90 for the kind of service they provide. The rooms are nothin spectacular.

I recently stayed at the Rochester Marriott for a wedding and needed to check in early due to some unforeseen, last minute runs to the store for the bridesmaids. I needed to clean up and get ready for the wedding super fast and the valet as well as the kind attendants at the front desk were able to find me a room and keep my car right in front while I got ready. They kindly did this with a smile on their face and were ready to help with anything else I could have needed. Very accommodating, very friendly. The room was quite clean and checkout was 12pm, so we had plenty of time the next day to go eat breakfast downtown and wander around. Event group-rate price for the room was very good also.

I was in Rochester for a medical conference and the Marriott was great! It was directly adjacent to the building where the conference was held - didnt even need to go outside. Front desk staff were always very helpful with any needs. It is also close to the Mayo Clinic which allowed us to tour part of it with ease.
The DEN restaurant and lounge was great! Food was very good, with lots of options. Bar wait staff were all very nice and fun, especially when we sat in the bar watching the NBA Playoff games. I highly recommend it.
Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Heat and air was comfortable. And rooms have a fridge.
The only down sides were that the elevators were somewhat slow and all vending machines were Pepsi products - and I'm a Diet Coke drinker. I couldn't find Diet Coke anywhere, not even the gift nook, for 3 days! I hate that hotels contract with one company or the other.
They also have a very helpful touchscreen to get info about the hotel and surrounding areas, including various conferences and events. And they provide computers so you can check-in online 24 hours in advance for your flight. Very helpful.
Overall, it was a great place and I would stay there again for sure.

This is a marvelous place to stay during your appointments at the Mayo Clinic. It is fresh, airy, clean and the staff is very attentive to every need! The rooms are spacious, very clean, nicely decorated and the lobby is large and comfortable. Outdoor eating is wonderful in the warm weather of spring. You are just minutes from the subway and numerous shops. A wonderful place to relax!

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.
