Melissa's is one of those restaurants you really want to love when you first walk in. To be honest, my husband and I went there only because we wanted to see the beautiful Victorian home it is located in. The home was beautiful but the food is what will have us coming back next time we go to Rochester. We decided to order a bottle of Toasted Head Chardonnay because we planned to order chicken and fish. We were a bit surprised that it was served without an ice bucket and we had to ask for one, but we were promptly given one. The salad and French Onion soup were excellent. My husband had a chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto and cheese which was absolutely delicious. I had the pan-fried walleye which came with beautifully roasted vegetables and wild rice. Unfortunately the fillet I was served was so bony it was almost inedible. Luckily Melissa was our server and noticed right away without me asking that something was wrong. She offered to get me a different meal right away. Usually I get very grumpy when this happens as I hate to watch my husband eat while I wait, but it only took about ten minutes. The new fillet was completely bone-free and delicious, although the wild rice, while cooked correctly, was drowning a bit in butter. All in all, we had a wonderful dining experience in this charming restaurant and look forward to our next meal there.
