“It's seen better days”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2011

The facility has been allowed to decline over the years...Mayo Clinic recently took a leadership role and will pump money into some of the renovations in the future. Nothing spectacular, but it does provide a glimpse into the Mayo family's personal life and how wealthy they must have been.

“Private tour of the grounds and residence was awesome”

We liked the old family photos and the untouched interior.

“Christmas Tours at Mayowood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2011

My wife and I visited Mayowood Mansion in November, when they decorate the mansion in holiday themes and provide light refreshments. It's a beautiful mansion, an interesting way to learn about the Charles Mayo family, and a nice Christmastime activity as well. The tour took about an hour.

Our volunteer guide provided interesting insights into the home and the family, as well as answering our questions.

Overall, I found it a step below the James J. Hill house (located in St Paul) in terms of impressiveness of the mansion, but learning about the lives of the Mayo family was fascinating.

I'd like to return for a daytime visit during warmer months to see the mansion grounds, which are supposed to be quite nice.
