“Really liked being here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

This is an older hotel whose rooms were remodeled. It is directly across the street from St. Mary's Hospital, Francis Bldg. Fantastic location. The rooms were clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The price was right with a special patient and family/friends rate that was reasonable. If you want natural lighting in your room make sure you ask for a room with two beds. The queen rooms were in the back and had almost no natural lighting. I stayed in room 401 and really liked it. I could look out my window and see greenery and the sky. Other than the 01 or 02 (put the floor number in front) rooms the rooms were along a corridor with hugh windows/doors facing the outside but people walked along the corridor to get to their rooms. Every room has a micro/fridge, recliner and large flat screen tv.

Room Tip: Liked the higher floors in rooms ending with 01. Light, bright, and airy.

My husband had surgery at St. Mary's Hospital. This hotel is located directly across the street on the North side. It is an older hotel but kept very clean. The rooms are a nice size but bath rooms are very small. We found the hotel staff to be very hellpful. The rooms are reasonably priced and we would definitely stay here again. There are places to eat close by the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 611 that has window facing outsde os building. Other rooms have windows facing th...

This hotel is very easy to find, and the employees are exceptional. When our car broke down they were very helpful. The property was very clean, plenty of parking, the Mayo transport bus stops just outside the door, and it is directly across the street from St. Mary's hospital. Complimentary coffee and cookies --- why would I ever stay anywhere else?

Room Tip: The second floor has the balcony, laundry and breakfast room/library. Some rooms have more natural...

We stayed in room 401 which contained a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and tiny cupboard. It was perfect for our needs. The room was immaculately clean, and the front desk folks were very helpful and informative. Parking was not a problem at all. The proximity to restaurants, shopping, grocery stores and gasoline stations was just the ticket to make our visit to Rochester happen without a single hitch.

Our reason for going was to see physicians within Mayo Clinic. Fiksdal Hotel is a few minutes to downtown where the main buildings are, and right across the street from St. Mary's. The rates were much better than the chain hotels in Rochester. It is not a luxury hotel, but we did not need all the bells and whistles, just a comfortable, clean and safe place to stay.

We had dinner our first night next door at the Canadian Honker restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu that has good variety for all tastes. If you are a fast food junkie McDonald's is a block or so down the street. We also went to the Apache Mall which is two exits south on the highway. Anything we needed was just a hop away. Even Famous Dave's Bar B Que was not too far.

One night we got a bit chilly so asked for a little heater the next day, which was cheerfully delivered. This did the trick!

When we return in October Fiksdal Hotel and Suites will be our destination.

If you will be going to Rochester, MN., it's very likely you will be there to visit the Mayo Clinic as I did recently. People from all over the world find it worth the extra effort and expense to get treatment at this renowned institution and after my experience there, I understand why. It's an extraordinary medical facility which inspires confidence even in those who have become disenchanted with the U.S. health care network.

The particular building in the Mayo complex where my wife underwent surgery was St. Mary's Hospital and the Fiksdal Hotel & Suites was literally right across the street from the hospital's east entrance so I could come and go with ease. The hotel provides complimentary off-street parking and offers a discount to Mayo patients. It's certainly not plush and in fact has a slightly dingy look but it's clean with no unpleasant odors. If you're looking for the ultimate in convenient locations while at Mayo, you can't beat this place.

Have been staying here everytime my husband is getting treatment at Mayo Clinic. Staff is very friendly and strive to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We need reclining chair in room and they have several available on every floor. Clean, quiet, and close to everything needed.

We were very pleased with our recent stay at The Fiksdal Hotel from the moment we arrived. They were very accomodating! Room was clean, smoke free, and right across the street from St. Mary's hospital. Continental breakfast was great! 6PM cookie hour was very nice too and parking was a plus!
