My wife and I recently stayed at this property for a Friday night getaway. The room was very nice, and included a new "air beds", a microwave and refrigerator, very fast high speed internet, a comfortable and useful oversized desk and chair, and full cable television. The front desk staff was very friendly and professional, including phoning to verify that we had actually asked for dinner delivery (this is good practice that I wish more hotels would follow). They also seemed to go out of their way to make their guests' stay enjoyable. A big plus about this hotel is that it is connected to the skyway/subway system in downtown Rochester, which is great in inclement weather. Restaurants, stores, and the Mayo Clinic are easily accessible, and the hotel furnishes a map of the skyway/subway system upon request. The hotel appears to be rather new (within the last 5 years), and the furnishings don't seem to have suffered from abuse or neglect. The breakfast was massive and diverse, including three different options for hot dishes, as well as tons of fruit, breads, and juices.
However, there are some drawbacks. First of all, there is a $10 per night parking charge, and the parking lot at the hotel is rather small. Even though additional parking is available a block away in a parking garage, this is quite inconvenient. I would think that when the hotel was full, this would present quite a problem. Also, the hotel is located on a busy city thoroughfare, and the noise was a bit of an issue. While the traffic certainly calmed down during the night, it was rather annoying to listen to vehicles starting and stopping in the "echo chamber" that is downtown. Perhaps some more soundproofing would help in this area.
The hotel pool and exercise room were very nice, although I was puzzled by the fact that they closed down at 10:00 PM. That seems rather early, especially on weekends.
The convenience store connected to the hotel was very well-stocked, including frozen dinners and bottled water and soda. The prices seemed reasonable, considering the fact that hotels usually charge exorbitant rates for goods sold in their facility.
Overall, a great hotel, in a great location, and the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. When we're in Rochester next time, we will definitely stay there again.
