“A wonderfully relaxing, experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2009

This was our first, but not the last, bed and breakfast experience. The farm was beautiful, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the food was wonderful.
We stayed in the Willow room which was the biggest room, with a willow swing near the fireplace that you can swing and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country. Then when it is time to sleep you sink into the feather bed, under down filled comferter and sleep like never before.
In the morning we all gathered at the outside hearth oven and baked bread.
When we left we where already planning our next visit to the Round barn Farm.
I would highly recommend this B,B,&B if your looking for a very relaxing get away from the hectic world we live in.

My wife and I go to a couple B&B's a year usually for Birthday's / Anniversaries. What I liked the most about this B&B was the history behind it. I really enjoyed the stories of the innkeepers and the tour was very interesting. We were able to bake our own bread and I had a very good time doing it. The rooms were cozy, there was complmentary beverages at hand. The food was very good ( fresh baked bread! Yummy ) I live by train tracks so the trains did not bother me as much as some of the other reviewers. It was the only downside to this Great weekend.

My partner and I spent two nights at the RBF. It is actually a newer home built to look old, and it is fantastic. From the many antiques to the reclaimed floorboards, it's stunning. We stayed in the Hearts and Flowers suite, and if you want a place to hole up in and relax, chose one of the suites over the more simple rooms. We saw all five rooms and would recommend them all. All the furnishings are top-notch.

The hosts, Robin and Elaine, have a well-practiced schtick that includes a very informative tour of the round barn on their property.

Robin also makes fresh bread every day, which rounds out their delicious, multi-course breakfasts.

The only things that make this a 4-star instead of 5-star review are: it was really noisy when they made breakfast (we wedged the extra blanket by the door the second morning which solved the problem), and while Robin and Elaine are certainly friendly and helpful, it did feel a bit practiced/forced.

  • Liked — The beauty of the house
  • Disliked — Noise during breakfast preparation

With the exception of trains rumbling past the property at all hours, this B and B would have been a positive experience... Had it not been for the owner's insistence on sharing her political beliefs over the breakfast table.

She was quite vocal about her anti-union and pro-Republican stance. I would never deny anyone their right to voice an opinion, but I don't necessarily want to hear it during a meal and especially don't want to hear it from someone I've just given a considerable amount of money to. Being a union member and Dem, her rant made me very uncomfortable.

If you are a drum-beating, sword-waving member of the Republican party, this is the B and B for you! I would advise everyone else to find other accommodations.

  • Liked — It was near home.
  • Disliked — The political views of the owner.

Well-meaning owners but this is not a relaxing place to stay. When part of the house tour includes where the drawer of earplugs are--this should be an indication that sleep ranks slightly below where you'd like it to be. Expect to be rousted out of bed at 7:30am because one owner insists all guests get up to make bread with him. If you don't respond to his loud calls, he runs the building banging a pot! I was already up at 5:30am because the management loudly goes about their business speaking in loud voices and clattering coffee supplies to the coffee station in the hall across from the sleeping rooms. Add to this the train that passes at 40 minute intervals blowing its horn some 200 yards from your sleeping quarters and you have an insomniac's nightmare.

I was not amused by the New Testament reading at breakfast--nor by the requirement that you stay in your chair during the excellent but exceedingly long breakfast.

If you like organized camp life, you will love this place. If you prefer a good night's sleep and a modicum of personal freedom, stay away.

  • Liked — Lovely house and property
  • Disliked — Impossible to rest because of the activities and noisiness/

We stayed here for our 25th wedding anniversary, and everything about it was delightful. The friendly and professional owners, the spotless and comfortable room, the delicious and beautiful breakfast, and the additional little touches all combined to make us feel pampered beyond belief. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. In the morning, the owner took us on a tour of the round barn. Round Barn Farm made a special occasion very memorable. The owners love what they are doing and it shows. We are already planning our return.
