“Just an ok stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

We recently stayed one night here with two small children. We spent the majority of our time in the pool. Our kids swam and enjoyed the zero depth pool and small slide along with the hot tub. At 2:00 the big slide opened and our daughter spent the remaining time on that. I went down the slide too and it was a blast. Great feature. We were also the only four people in the pool for 3 hours before check in, so that was nice. We ate at the bar and grill, and I would have to say it was overpriced. They do charge 2.00 for a very small glass of milk. We got burnt pizza. I would never eat there again. The room was clean. The beds were very uncomfortable and my pillow seemed to be stuffed with towels instead of feeling like a pillow. We opted out on the breakfast because it didn't look appealing. But I would say a pretty ok, average hotel. If you have kids and want to have fun in the pool, then stay here.

Room Tip: If you have the extra money and are staying, get a room with a view of the lake

Very misleading...slide was closed and is apparently only open on weekends. Restaurant also closed inside. I feel for the future of this place because at the rate they are going the place looks like it may be ready to throw in the towel completely. It does have a lot of potential however as it is a very nice hotel. Terrible continental breakfast...they should just offer coffee and not advertise the breakfast to cut costs. Will not stay here again unless the slide is guaranteed to be open as the kids wete pretty upset to see such a fun looking slide they could not use.

My husband, 18 year old daughter and I traveled to northern MN to snowmobile. The hotel is beautiful. Reservations went relatively smoothly, but they're pretty disorganized and were unable to answer some basic questions. You're told "new management" to explain away problems and/or unanswerable questions. Maid service was rather touch and go. One day we never did receive maid service. The rooms are well sound proofed but the doors are not. The lodge was full of children with the rooms on both sides of us having multiple children in them (one with no parents) and as long as they were in the room you were barely able to hear them. When running and yelling down the hallway, they were very loud. The waterslide had very strange hours so we weren't ever able to use it. The pool and hot tub were so full of children that we were only able use the hot tub once on a 4 night trip. They advertise wi-fi availability, but it was only available in the lobby, in a little corner nook upstairs and it's very slow.
We checked in late and it was hard to find someone to check us in. One we found the desk clerk she was really nice and even called one of the restaurants in to town to check if they were still open. All the restaurants in town were closed, but the hotel restaurant had pizza's available. $12 per frozen pizza (not a good frozen pizza), but at least that was available.
The hotel is on the banks of Pelican Lake. Our room overlooked the parking lot, but the back of the hotel overlooks the lake with small balconies and a beautiful view. The rooms were very nice with a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. On the weekend the lobby had hot cocoa and cider available, which was a nice touch.
Hopefully the new management will get things smoothed out as this could be an exceptional hotel.

Our family has been staying at this resort under different owners over the last 8 years. My girls love the waterslide and the rustic charm. We stayed in the jacuzzi 2 room suite with a fireplace and balcony overlooking the lake. This property is very clean and well kept. The only two issues I have are with customer service and dining options. The onsite restaurant is casual and food unremarkable and, I thought, overpriced. Orr is remote and alternative restaurants are few. I don't know how long the new owners have been in operation but the casual staff seemed confused and were not very friendly. I hope the new owners can make a go of this lovely place and we will continue to stay there occasionally.

At suggestion of Voyagaire Houseboats we made reservation at Oveson's Pelican Lake Resort. Formerly an AmiericInn and then Gateway Lodge it has been renamed under newe ownership. Oveson's are the operators of the historic Kettle Falls Hotel. Reservation via phone was smooth but they required a 30% immediate charge on our three rooms (2 Kings and one 2-queen bed). Check-in was smooth. Room was spotless and large but funny thing was both King rooms (219 and 119) were handicap accessible. Nice for my somewhat physically disabled wife though with flip down shower bench but toilet was too tall. Basic cableTV channels (last TV for a week for us) and HBO. Facility overall is new and impressive. Checked out pool area (nice slide) but did not use. Ate at small restaurant on-site and food was very good (burgers, sandiwches, fish, chicken, etc...). Onl;y downside was it closes altogether at 10pm which means small bar also is closed then. Included breakfast was typical but did include biscuits & gravey and boiled eggs. We ate outside on patio overlooking lake & dock and noticed fire pit and other amenities out there. Checkout was a breeze since we had settled up the night before. Staff was super friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Side away from parking lot might be darker, Also train tracks on other side of highway but we never...

Now called Oveson's. Slow staff at desk complained extensively about being overwhelmed (but we were the only ones checking in). Waited for room way past check-in time. Continental breakfast now consists of a few cold cereals and slimy biscuits and sausage. Pool staff didn't do job, appeared very unhappy and kept leaving and putting a parent in charge.
