“Nice small town restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2010

I stayed upstairs at the Archer House so I had low expectations. However, this place was full of small town charm. The elderly couple at a nearby table were having breakfast with their insurance agent. Another table had a group of old friends having their weekly get together. There were a few hotels guests and visitors like me.

Breakfast was really cheap and service was fine. I have no complaints at all.

“Hidden Tavern Lounge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2009

We are new to town and received a gift certificate to The Tavern. We went in for some drinks, and the waitress in the Tavern basement restaurant mentioned there was a lounge upstairs. We went upstairs and found a neat little place called The Tavern Lounge. The was a gentleman playing acoustic guitar and singing. Very neat and cozy. Bartender was nice and helpful. (Christian) We ordered the cheese plate which had 3 local cheeses, apples, crackers, bread etc for only $10. Very fun and will definitely go again!

“Helpful Waitress, Good Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2009

The smell of freshly baked bread wafted outside to the street from the Tavern Restaurant as we walked around Northfield. After getting a recommendation from one of the local shopkeepers, we stopped for lunch there on our way to the airport. As we were feeling pressed for time, we mentioned this to the waitress. She then made sure that we were served as quickly as possible and brought the check before we were finished so that we could leave quickly.
The food was great. We tried the Bleu Cheesburger, Tavern Dunker (French Dip with Rosemary), and Chicken Stew. I'd pass on the stew next time. Definitely go for the potatoes with the sandwiches, they were unique and very tasty. We were quite impressed with the variety of cuisines on the menu as the restaurant is labeled "American".
The restaurant is located in the basement of the building that houses the Archer House and is accessible from the river side of the building. The interior is full of little rooms and halls - very publike. Getting to the restroom was quite an adventure, but gave us a chance to explore.the building.

“Wonderful food and helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2009

Great breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We live in town and we go about 3 times a week. The staff is helpful and fodd is awesome. A breakfast for $5.00 that is not deep fried! They have a wonderful dinner of Jambalya or steaks, or pasta to die for! They have homemade bread (better than Mom's). I love their patio in the summer. I have been a customer for 15 years and will return until I no longer can.
