Mario Uva in the winter of 1964/1965 came to The Netherlands from Italy where his father, from whom he learnt the trade, uncle and grandfather were cooks.
In 1967 he bought the café from his Dutch father-in-law, and started an Italian restaurant with his wife, which due to his untiring efforts very soon gained a lot of patronage, and became the place to have an authentic Italian dinner.
Now his son Alessandro is running the restaurant.
They also have six rooms for clients not wanting to drive after have a nice dinner with the recommended wines, priced from € 107,50 - 175 per room per night.
For many years they only had one fixed menu's, at present between € 55,- for a five courses menu to € 72,50 for a seven courses menu, these last years an à la carte menu was added.
The food is very good, and can be adjusted to one's intolerances e.g. lactose intolerance.
Service is also quite fine.
Since they are often fully booked during weekends, an advance booking would be wise.
For the people on a lesser budget he has many years ago opened the Pizzeria La Storia in a separate building behind the dike at which his restaurant is situated. Alas the service there is rather inefficient. I prefer the restaurant.
There is no private parking, parking is along the dike, next to the water, so if one is late one sometimes has to walk quite a bit to the restaurant.
