You can't go very wrong with the Hotel Ivy. Its a newer property (albiet a remodeled older building) the location is very good, the workout facilities and spa are some of the best for a hotel you will find (the reason we chose this hotel on this particular visit). Finally...as part of Starwood Luxury Collection, you get some nice perks to go along with it. The staff was super friendly but at no point in my short stay was there anyone out front to help with luggage or taxis. It is cold in Minneapolis so I'm giving them an out!
What wasn't quite perfect, my upgraded room was dark and not very large with strange windows that started halfway up the wall. On the other hand, the bathroom was just amazing, half the size of the room itself! The decor is what I would call Pottery Barn Modern, I really prefer either very comtemporary or traditional but I assume this easy to live with zen sort of feel appeals to many. The hallways can be very noisy with doors that slam like in an echo chamber. Just a heads up. And the bartender downstairs (where Starwood Gold guests get a free drink) was not having a good night. All in all, another fine choice for a city with quite a few other good hotel options!
