“A Great Choice Around The Convention Center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Just spent two nights at the DoubleTree on LaSalle and had a great experience. The staff was helpful, the rooms were clean, and facilities were updated.

Others have mentioned that the hotels interiors outdated, but I would disagree. Stained wood trim hardly makes them outdated. It's just not the slick, modern style most hotels use. The rooms were very clean and felt fresh. We parked a car and even used the hotels laundry room. No problems.

Parking cost extra ($17/nt), but I expected that in downtown Minneapolis. Internet also cost extra ($9.95 / 24 hours / device). Paying for internet seems a little silly, but the rooms were affordable, so the additional cost wasn't a deterrent.

The hotel was in a great location, within walking distance to bars, restaurants, and lots of shopping. For a couple of 'out-of-towners', it was a nice convenience.

We visited the beautiful city of Minneapolis for an annual convention in early August and this was our first stay at the DoubleTree. We had not considered the DoubleTree as it was not in our approved hotel block, but as our first choice hotel was not guaranteeing pre-booked reservations due to the hotel being sold and potential renovations (VERY disappointing - won't ever consider staying there again!), our company had no other choice but to scramble around for additional lodgings those of us who had been booked into that hotel. Not only was the DoubleTree closer to the Minneapolis Convention Center but we were thrilled with the hotel. The front desk staff were extremely professional, welcoming and helpful. The complementary cookies were fresh, warm and tasted as good as they looked (apply directly to hips!). The rooms were spacious and clean. We had king size bed rooms as that was all that was available but the sitting room area was a great compromise. Our only wish was that the bathroom was a tad bigger, but that was a minor concern. Our convention is being moved to Denver next year, which is sad, because of all the hotels we've stayed at in downtown Minneapolis the DoubleTree was by far our favorite and we would definitely have booked into it again. Thanks, DoubleTree ... your rating more than doubled for us!

Room Tip: There are no great views from either side of the hotel ... our front window was large but overlooked...

This is a nice location for events downtown and the rooms were pretty spacious and clean. Other reviews about this hotel mention a ton of details (like wallpaper corners lifting, etc.) but that's how things are most of the time no matter where you go. Megan, working the front desk the night we checked in (August 23, 2012) was amazing and so helpful. She appreciated our patience when the guests in front of us were rude and took a lot of her time. But be warned: this hotel has NO free breakfast, NO pool and parking on-site is about $19.00/night. Still, the beds were really very comfortable and I thought the room was quiet, we heard nothing from the hallways. The front lobby is spacious and guests can be dropped off in front of the hotel where there is loading and unloading temp parking available. Connections in the skyway to many restaurants. Warm cookies were nice on arrival!

Room Tip: Most double rooms are double beds - not queen.

The staff is friendly and attentive. The room are spacious although the bathroom is very small. The beds were comfortable and it was quiet even on the second floor. The breakfast buffet was overpriced and the seating was very close quarters. Overall, it was a good "Hilton Experience."

Lived up to our expectations for a Hilton chain hotel. After spending one night in a standard room with no door between the bedroom and living areas, we asked if anything with a bedroom door was available and were upgraded to a corner suite which was perfect. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and accommodating with respect to every inquiry and request as was the housekeeping staff. Our refrigerator was stocked with soft drinks and water each day. We found the breakfast buffet to be tasty and satisfying (the first day, the eggs were a bit rubbery and the oatmeal a bit thick, but after that, things improved greatly). We also found that, if anything was not to our liking on the buffet, they would make it (like eggs-over) and bring it to you from the back. Ask and you shall receive!! Our server was wonderful and remembered how we liked our coffee and juice each day. No complaints here! As for location, as others have mentioned, this hotel is perfectly situated for shopping, eating and conferencing. Transportation is easily accessible to just about anywhere you want to go (downtown St Paul is only a 20 minute bus ride). If you like to walk, this is the place for it with the lovely Loring Park and the famous Minneapolis Sculpture Gardens only about 10 minutes away. Had a great stay at the Doubletree in downtown Minneapolis and would definitely stay here again. And once again: if something is not to your liking, SPEAK UP! I'm convinced that the staff here wants you to be as happy as possible and will do whatever they can to make your stay a great one too!!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room which has a door between the bedroom and living room

Posting from the hotel. Everything is fine. Staff was very nice. There was a central system glitch with my Hilton Honors number and they checked me in as an Honors member anyway (didn't have my card with me, thought it would come up "on the system") and then later updated my info when we got the HH straightened out.

Lobby is nicely done. Restaurant a bit pricey for breakfast but not unheard of for a biz hotel; you don't have to eat there (I only did once, the first morning of a multi-day stay). Microwave & fridge in room. No freezer section so don't buy ice cream! (Most of these mini-fridges, the freezer compartment is iffy anyway). I bought some food at Target's grocery section and microwaved it for b'fast in my room the next couple of days.

The halls & rooms were decently & recently updated. Minneapolis market can be surprisingly pricey but the DoubleTree was significantly less than the Marriott Residence (at least at the time of my stay).

Hotel is across the street from Target corporate HQ, with a Target store on the other side of the HQ. Hotel is also one block from the Nicolette "pedestrian" mall (but, but, there are buses running down the middle of it?!?). Hotel is not on a "Skyway", access is on next block. Downtown is walkable from this location but the Light Rail is over on Nicollet & 5th and the hotel is on LaSalle & 11th. So if you took the Light Rail in from the airport, you might want a cab transfer (minimum cab fare is $5 according to the sign on the side of the cab) rather than drag your roller bag that far. Going the other way, there is a cab stand right outside the hotel.

The hotel has its own small parking garage (extra charge) which had plenty of space when I was there. I was in town for a few days and had rented a car from the airport which turns out I really didn't need for what I was doing (visitng family & friends). I booked into a suite hotel so that I could better receive visitors to my room. The car was a waste, burning rental days & parking just sitting there, but that's not the hotel's fault.

There are plenty of restaurants for lunch & dinner right close, and a nightlife district a few blocks away, walkable if you're not drunk. I had a nice stay and would stay here again but remember it INSN'T a "budget" property; mostly business travelers whose situation allows them to spend above the minimum. You can get other non-suite or more distant accomodations a lot cheaper. Book here if you want to be downtown in a suite, and don't mind the price.

Great hotel for the price ($60 on Priceline). We love the location since it is in DT and walking distance to pretty much anything. Probably about a mile from the light rail...but a nice and pleasant walk down Nicollet ave to get there. It's right next door to Brit's Pub which is one of our favorite places to grab a drink.
Rooms are clean. Had a sleeper sofa right around the corner from the bedroom area. Beds are fantastic.
Parking fees are a bit steep, but you'd have to pay that regardless of the hotel you stayed in DT.
Not sure I would pay the regular rate for the hotel...but it was a definite bargain at the rate we paid.

Room Tip: Fun to have a room on a higher floor to look out over the busy city traffic
