“I wouldn't recommend staying here....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

This hotel originally sparked my friend's attention because of the room deal that was offered online, along with a pool, gym and sauna.

Now, being the hotel connoisseur that he is, he finally made a decision to pick the Millennium because, like i said above - there was a deal on the room. (along with all of the other perks...)

As soon as we walked into the lobby he instantly regretted his decision. There was nothing that made us feel welcome or warm and happy to be there. The front desk never once smiled and the room was average at best (not a problem for me)

Although the gym was nice and very up to date.. the sauna did not work, they left bottles of water in our room and charged us for them and last but not least i got bitten by beg bugs...

We are both not complainers or one's to make a scene about something like this, but we new we have to tell the manager to let her know for future reference and, its goes without saying.. come to a reasonable conclusion for my itchy discomfort.

Now, having worked in customer service for years the first thing that should have been done was to listen to us and let us explain what had happened. She immediately changed the subject about the weather, although she did take our name and phone number.. She ended our conversation with "is that everything?" So at this hotel do you have to make a scene at the front desk to get the proper treatment for this situation? Thats not the kind of people we are, however..

It is safe to say that we will never go back to this hotel ever again.

Front Desk
It's hard to say the service was "bad" because there was NONE to review! Each time we had a question for the front desk they weren't able to answer it, and they didn't appear to care about answering it because they rarely even looked up from their computers while talking, and never seemed happy or excited to be there. They also didn't appear to be able to answer anyone else's questions either because each time we stood in line at the front desk we heard guest after guest get the same responses. If you haven't been to Minneapolis before, they have a huge skywalk system so you can get around the city without having to go outside. No one at the hotel was able to provide us with any directions about how to use the skywalks to get anywhere; their answer was "it's faster if you just walk outside". It was -9 WITHOUT wind chill! No thanks!

Rooms
In the rooms, there were only 2 towels, asked for more, didn't receive. The rooms were so dry I ditched my contacts after the first night and got a bloody nose as well as dry flakey skin.

Policies
They increased the room rate bc we were part of a dance convention/competition but literally appeared to want NOTHING to do with anyone who was associated with the competition (even though we were paying more than the regular guests). We wanted to leave a night early because we just wanted to leave and go home instead of spending an extra night at the end of the competition, but they told us that their policy requires a 3 day cancellation policy. Parking: Parking in their garage was $18/night (no elevator so make sure to drop your bags first).

Food
The restaurant took over 30 minutes (it was only half full) to get a cheese plate and fruit bowl for breakfast... way over priced; $4 for an orange juice, $4 for a black coffee... Friends ordered pizzas one night for their girls and said their pizzas were WAY over priced and awful.

Positives
I do need to make mention of the great bartenders during the Happy Hour as well as very friendly doormen. They were the ONLY good part of this stay. The hotel was also generally very clean and the beds/pillows were pretty comfortable.

The only negative about this hotel is that they do not have a valet. Being in MPLS you would think they would provide a valet. My boyfriend drives a truck and he had major issues in their tiny parking ramp...it was very tight. Other than that it was a nice hotel and great for walking to all the bars and restaurants. The room was nice ..we did not have a great view but who cares when you don't get back until 3 AM:) The staff was very nice.

Check-in was great. We had a beautiful king room on the 7th floor. It was modern and very clean. We were in town with a group of friends for the motorcycle show in the adjacent convention center. They all had a similar experience. That's were the fun ended.

Our group of 14 decided to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant the next morning. As we approached the hostess station, we were met not by a greeting but a crabby "why didn't you tell me sooner". A scolding for having not informed her earlier of our decision to eat in-house? We then heard one of the wait staff from the back exclaim, "Oh hell no!" There were plenty of open seats. We were not overwhelming the space. This was followed by cold tasteless food. We should have left at the first sign of trouble, but we were lazy. A mistake that was not repeated the next morning.

Two days later, I discovered they had double billed my credit card. Their response, "I must be mistaken. Please send copies of statements and we'll see what we can do." I'm still waiting to see what happens with this.

If you have an event to attend at the Minneapolis Convention Center, stay clear of the Millennium Hotel. If it's your only choice, never eat at the hotel restaurant. Walk the five blocks to Key's Cafe and have the best food around.

I was delighted with the service at the Millennium Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. I recently stayed there for three nights and the second night I wasn't feeling well so ordered soup and tea for dinner. About 30 minutes after I got back to my room, room service knocked on the door delivering hot tea, warm from the oven chocolate chip cookies and a handwritten note from the manager, Anita, saying she hoped that I would feel better soon. Anita also arranged for their car service to pick me up the next morning, take me to my meeting and to the airport later in the afternoon. Above and beyond customer service. The entire staff was friendly, room clean, food surprisingly good for a hotel, complimentary table service breakfast, and nice location downtown. I would definitely stay there again. Kudos.
