“Wow! Stunning hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2007

This hotel easily deserves it's reputation. We had a room on the executive level, the views were stunning, the decor and amenities wonderful. The steam bath was very cool, especially after walking around outside in a Minnesota winter!

The executive lounge is a great place to hang out and enjoy the scenery. The staff were very polite and helpful for the most part. Top all that off with an excellent location.

Outstanding.

It does seem that it is worth asking for a room away from the elevators, we requested so on the reservation and they put us as far away as they possibly could!

If you ever have the opportunity to stay in Minneapolis, I hope you will stay at the Marquette. The location is ideal for downtown shopping and dining, although there isn't much reason to leave the hotel.

Basil's is a terrific restaurant. Throughout the day, at least some (if not all) of the family can be found at Basil's, enjoying the food (be sure to get the wild rice soup) and the view. I won't tag them "kid friendly," as that might deter some of you from trying it, but the staff has always been very sweet to the little ones at our table.

This past weekend, I contacted the hotel to help arrange an anniversary surprise for my parents. In one phone call to the concierge, I had everything I needed. The staff is thoughtful and efficient, a lovely asset to the hotel.

Over the last 10 years, the hotel has become a family hub. With a family spread across the US, the Marquette is a lovely place to stay when we can't all get home.

We were here for a wedding. Ceremony was at Nazareth Chapel at Northwestern Univ. Reception was on the 50th floor of the IDS building which shares a common area of the Marquette.
The hotel accomodations were wonderful. Very friendly staff. Conveniently located. Everything about our weekend here was fantastic. You will not be disappointed with the Marquette. A true example of how Hilton's should be.

I stayed here for 2 nights during the Thanksgiving weekend. I feel for the family who had the rooms near the elevator shafts. In older hotels....you must always say no rooms near the elevators. Forget the down pillows, Egyptian sheets, etc.

I stayed in a standard king and had breakfast at Basil's, the hotel restaurant. Spinach Eggs Florentine.....fabulous. Not many children were there.

The Holidazzle parade could be seen from our room overlooking Sak's and Nicollet Mall. Am returning to The Marquette in a few months and did put into the reservation request NO ROOMS Near the Elevators.

Sad but true on these old historic sites that rooms were places near these shafts. As a single female business traveler I am usually placed in these awful rooms. Now I just speak up and always make it clear in every hotel I book.

  • Liked — The restaurant Basil's and the restaurant next to hotel......they invited us to join their family gathering on Thanksgiving because we were travelers. Minnesota Nice!

My wife and I thought this was a really great place to stay. We booked the hotel for a long weekend and, for a quite reasonable rate, were given a wonderful room: spacious, clean, new seeming furniture, striking, modernistic decor, lots of amenities including a large, curved desk, comfortable bed and linens, and a nicely appointed bathroom. The hotel is well located in the center of town, and within walking distance of some of Minneapolis's best attractions, such as the Walker Art Museum and the renowned Guthrie Theater. Moreover it is only two blocks from a light rail station that goes to the airport. The staff were friendly and quite helpful in giving information about the city. All-in-all, a most enjoyable experience. We give it our highest recommendation.

  • Liked — Luxurious room.
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — The weekend rates are really affordable.

We stay at the Marquette as often as we are in downtown Minneapolis. The front desk staff are almost always helpful and accomodating. I am not shy about asking about upgrades and usually get something. The street level bar has a good happy hour with hors d'oeurvres and friendly, busy bartenders. The bar has been on occasion so busy that the cleanup of spills and used plates is slow. The rooms are very large and the beds first class. Each room has lots of windows.
Only downside -- they seem to have phased out the warm chocolate chip cookies available for the late afternoon check-ins.
While part of the Hilton group, it is far superior to the Mpls. Hilton where the rooms are at best grim and the bathrooms small.

  • Liked — Rooms and services
  • Disliked — view is city streets and roof tops (but this is a city hotel!)
  • Tips/Secrets — inquire about special events, packages, around holidays and summer

We spent 3 nights at the Marquette. We took the light rail from the airport and the stop was only 2 blocks from the hotel. The staff was super friendly right off the bat and we got our keys and headed to our room. It was huge. We requested the King room and loved it. Great views and very comfortable. We looked around a little then headed to the hotels main restaurant, Basil. It had to have been one of the best lunches i have ever had.
The next day we took the light rail near the hotel all the way to the Mall of America. It was so easy to get around and we didnt have to walk far to find transit stops.

We were in town for the new years eve football game and were able to walk back from the metrodome to the hotel in no time at all. Instead of spending $75 each for a big new years meal in basils we went for room service instead. Basils takes care of the room service as well and again the food was great! You really cant go wrong eating there.
The hotel met our expectations and exceeded them! We will definitely stay there again

  • Liked — Very clean, great restaurants inside, close to affordable transportation
  • Disliked — Everything closes early since its in a business area. Mall attached to hotel is closed by 6pm
  • Tips/Secrets — Use the Light Rail! Its only $1.50 per person and is very fast. We saved alot of money by not using taxis
