“Nice hotel - love the "modern" touches”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We chose to stay here for the location...just steps out the door to some fun restaurants and pubs. Our room was spacious and clean (though no hairdryer in the bathroom) and our daughter loved the pool (it has a neat metal liner design and clean surrounding). We found the staff to be friendly; especially in the bar/restaurant area. Negatives are nothing complimentary in the morning - not even a coffee in the lobby, free wifi is available but it didn't work all that well, and parking at $17/day is pretty steep. I would stay here again and I recommend it to travelers.

This is a brand new Courtyard on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota just across the freeway from downtown. I believe the hotel is actually a refurbished Holiday Inn but it is very nice.
We called it the 50 shades of gray hotel because the very trendy lobby and room decor is mostly grays, blacks and whites. As platinum rewards members we were upgraded to a corner suite that was very nice with a great view of downtown and the West Bank. Typical of a Courtyard, they serve food and drinks in the lobby which is nice. Our only complaint was when we asked about a cab to go downtown they said they were always sitting outside. However when we went out to go downtown the cabs were actually private limos with no meters. It cost us $40 for the 2 or 3 mile trip downtown for dinner which was a bit excessive, even if the limos are much nicer than a cab.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner suite for a great view

Great things about this hotel were: very clean, beautiful decor, helpful staff, beautiful night view of the city of Minneapolis even if you don't pay extra to stay on the city view side. Very nice bedding, nice desk area with lots of surface space and conveniently located electrical outlets for charging and work. Great lighting. Comfortable reading chair with ottoman. Immaculately clean. I really liked the room set up in that you didn't feel the door opened directly into the hall because of a wall blocking view of beds and creating a sort of entryway to the room. Things you should know. Parking is available in the ramp next door with a $17 fee. No breakfast available in the hotel or anywhere in the neighborhood before 7AM so if you have an early start to the day plan ahead you won't be eating anywhere nearby. The only coffee available is a very small one cup weak serving kind brewed in the room. There is a very clean gym and pool area but the pool is quite small but adequate for a quick swim. There are no steps or gradual entry into the pool. It is only 4 feet deep but if you cannot step up 3 to 4 feet it will not be possible for you to use this pool. There is no hot tub if that is what you are needing. The bathroom is very small but nice. If you put the bathmat down you cannot open the door without hitting it. Nice mirrors for getting ready to go despite the size. One final note. We stayed on a Friday night and were woke up at 1, 3 and 4:30 AM by intoxicated people in the hallway but this was short lived spurts of noise from people traveling to their rooms. Overall the experience was positive but I also paid $100 and may not have been as understanding with some of the issues if I had paid some of the prices others say they have paid.

We stayed at the hotel for the KMOJ ShedG New Years Bash, overall this is a nice hotel, but extremely limited with their amenities. Nice staff at the front desk and bar. Room coffee meant for one and there is no complimentary anything meaning some sort of free offering in the lobby such as water or coffee would be a plus. I guess this is more for visiting U of M families or persons coming in for a game and don't plan on actually being in the hotel for a long period of time, but you could offer a little more. It also would be nice if parking was attached to the hotel as it was in the minus temps.

What a fabulous New Year’s Party ShedG hosted. Thank you for staying and taking the time to share your feedback. My staff will especially appreciate your service comment as this is what they work so hard to achieve. I agree – it would be nice if the parking was attached to the hotel. Fortunately it’s only a few steps from our front door. Our Bistro and Market offer a wide variety of food and beverage offerings - such as Starbuck’s coffee and much more. We also have room packages that offer food and beverage but do not offer them complimentary as you noted. Once again - thank you for your valued feedback and we hope to serve you again.

I choose this hotel because they had a swimming pool and I need to exercise to recover from surgery. However, getting in and out of the pool was very difficult...there were two toe holds in the side and no steps, not even the usual metal ones...high style but non-functional and certainly not accessible, since it was painful and scary getting out. Plus, the pool is small and cold. Otherwise, staff are nice and the hotel has the trendy styling of all Courtyards. My only beef was with the pool.

Room Tip: I was upgraded to a suite and it was high-style.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience you experienced during your recent stay with us. We take great pride in ensuring our guest’s satisfaction. Unfortunately, we did not meet your expectations and I am sincerely very sorry for that. While I am unable to change the size of the pool on our 14 floor - I can and will look into other options to enter and exit the pool. I will also be sure the temperature is comfortable for all future guests. Once again, please accept my apology and thank you for your valued feedback.

OK so we booked our room coming from south dakota as 4 friends going to the Vikings game. Hotel is big and beautiful, first of all, parking was an absolute joke. We asked as we checked in where to park, they said in the public part...ok, we tried, nope, you need to buy a $17 a day parking pass. Fine. Then we couldn't even find a spot except for the highest level or the garage. Fine. We get in the elevator and realize you have to go all the way to the ground floor, and walk back outside, while carrying all your stuff, and then back into the hotel and up those elevators to our room on the 5th floor. Why don't they just tell you this when you check in? Because people would be annoyed and say no thank you and walk out. This is exhausting.
Now, the room. It was beautifully remodeled and decorated, except one thing. They forgot the bathroom. It was so small. 2 girls could not get their hair done at that same time. We tried. Also, where is the exhaust fan? For people with low blood pressure, that much heat and steam will cause you to pass out. Because the bathroom was so small, I decided to sit on the floor by the big closet mirrors to do my hair and makeup, well another mistake, no outlets or lights? For being recently remodeled they made alot of mistakes.

Thank you for taking the time to provide thoughtful feedback about your recent stay with us at the Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown! Please accept my sincerest apologies for the issues that you experienced while you were our guest. The ramp adjacent to the hotel, while convenient for our guests to use, is owned by a third party. I promise to follow up with the front desk to ensure the parking options are being clearly explained and the option of unloading prior to parking is being offered. I know how bothersome it can be to haul luggage around and I am sorry that the option to unload prior to parking was not provided to you upon arrival. We have received feedback about the lighting in the main entrance of the guestroom previously and are looking at options to add more light to that space soon. Per code, the ventilation in our guest bathrooms does run 24-hours a day. We would be happy to check your previous guestroom to ensure it is functioning properly. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact me directly. Once again, please accept my apology. Phil Johnson - GM

Just returned from a business trip in Minneapolis, and stayed at the Courtyard Minneapolis Hotel. Upon my arrival, the staff was absolutely amazing!! What a great bunch of people, individuals that absolutely love and embrace their job!!! Very warm and welcoming staff all around. I stayed there for 7-days, and not one day went bye that I was not greeted/treated as if i were a King!!!

Hotel wise - wasn't a big fan of the lighting in the room, not enough lights, had to open the curtains in the morning in order to light up the room. Big show yeah, but they could have hung a hook on the back of the bathroom door to reach and or dry a towel.....
