“Pretty good, but felt kind of isolated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

About what you would expect from the Holiday Inn brand, no major complaints about the hotel. The front desk staff were courtesy and helpful. The room was clean and maintained throughout my stay. I certainly liked the little 'elephant' shaped towel that greeted me when I checked in. There was some kind of water leak in the bathroom - I couldn't figure out where it was coming from but mentioned it to the Front Desk as I checked out and they seemed to take it seriously. It wasn't anything major but just something I noticed in the mornings.
I didn't find the restaurant very appealing (very empty and not terribly enticing) - but I was there through the week and the hotel didn't seem too busy when I was there. And I had found the Jewel of India across the street so I was set for dining options.
The walls seemed very thin - but what are you going to do with walls. I could hear my very chatty neighbour most of the night when I was watching Monday Night Football.
Like I mentioned in the title, the location felt isolating to me. It was this hotel and then about four/five restaurants - I didn't find the neighbourhood very inviting to go for a walk or to find some places to shop. But their shuttle staff were helpful and able to take me to the Light Transit stop so that I could get to Target Field for only 50 cents a ride - highly recommend that.
Watch out for the taxi drivers out front - your fare could be different each time - mine was... but these are the risks one assumes when traveling.
I'm still committed to the Holiday Inn brand but if I was to return to Minneapolis I'd likely look for another hotel location.

Room Tip: Maybe avoid an adjoining room, if possible. It may have added to my hearing my neighbour's ever...

Thank you for your brand loyalty and choosing to stay with us. We appreciate your candid comments and are happy we could delight you with small gestures like the towel animal and shuttle service. If you are ever in the area again, you might enjoy venturing a few blocks either east or west of the building for more excitement. The bustling campus of the University of Minnesota is just one block east while the historic St. Anthony Falls with more shopping, dining and attractions is located just west of the hotel. There are safe and scenic walking trails to both areas. We hope you would consider staying with us again. It would be our pleasure to show you the vibrancy of our neighborhood and accommodate you in a room without an adjoining door.

“Great access to university”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

I read a number of reviews before booking the hotel, so I had a good picture of the pros and cons. This hotel seems a bit far from the Metrodome to incorporate the word into the hotel's name, but that is just a marketing decision. This hotel is extremely close to the University of Minnesota buildings on the west side of the river. The main part of campus is walkable as well, but the law school is right down the block from the hotel.

I happened to be in town for a business trip. The parking garage next door was no problem. I don't understand the complaints from previous reviewers. Yes, the garage is a municipal facility, but I was able to bill it to my hotel folio (with in/out privileges for an extra buck). I had no issues.

The front desk manager on duty when I checked in upgraded my room because of my IHG status. Because of the booking method that I must use at my office, I wasn't technically eligible for that consideration -- nor did I expect it. Needless to say, I was very happy with his customer service attitude and with my room.

It was a cool summer evening after a rainstorm. I walked across the street and had an excellent dinner with local craft beer on the patio at RePUBlic.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We're glad to hear you had no trouble with the parking garage and enjoyed your room upgrade. We are definitely privileged to be so close to the University and are considering changing our location indicator with the upcoming demise of the Metrodome and subsequent construction of a new football stadium. It would be our pleasure to welcome you back to the hotel soon. Safe travels!

“Ok for short stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

Nice staff, clean building but the double beds (only size available if you need 2 beds) were hard as a rock and uncomfortable. The shuttle service driver was exceptional for getting us (12-15 people) to and from our wedding and out to breakfast. He was both timely and courteous.

Only other bad item was that they made you pay for your coffee every morning. The machine in the room worked but the coffee was not good. Recommend that you go around the corner for a good cup or two. They should provide complimentary coffee.

Thanks for selecting our hotel for your accommodations while attending your niece's wedding. We were honored to host your family and friends for the celebration. We also appreciate your kind words and feedback. Currently we serve complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby on weekday mornings. We have discussed expanding this service to weekends and will consider your suggestion. Thanks again for the review. We would love to welcome you back as our guest.

“Handy if youre visiting the University”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012 via mobile

Its a Holday Inn! Pool could do with a bit of TLC, breakfast is non-descript, local bars esp The Town Hall are excellent so go there for lunch and dinner, staff really nice. And you can get anywhere local on the brilliant hire bike or walk around to the nearby mills and over the bridge to the old university district

“Not SAFE! Rude and helpless staff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This hotel is not safe and management doesn't care! At 1 a.m., as we were sleeping, a man opened the door to our room! He wasn't able to enter because the chain was in place but he tried! His keycard opened our room door! Scarey, huh? It wasn't until we screamed that he left! Management was NO HELP! Did they give him a keycard for our room? I tried my keycard in other doors on our floor and the green light came on! I didn't open the doors because I didn't want to break-in to rooms and scare people. but I confronted manager with this news and she smirked at me. No apology! No help! No call to security! This is just wrong! No use trying to contact hotel owner because ownership is well hidden. Believe me: this is NOT A SAFE HOTEL!

Room Tip: Find another hotel. There are plenty of hotels in that location and they are much better!

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the hotel. We agree the behavior you report is not acceptable and hotel management immediately investigated your claim. To start, our Chief Engineer audited the lock to see if anybody entered the room. He found that no keys were used on the door other than the ones issued to you. Additionally, management tested your keys on other guest rooms and were not able to gain access as you indicated. When an incorrect key is used on a door, the lock will flash two quick yellow lights which can be easily be confused with a green access light. Lastly, we contacted the company that manufacturers and services our key program to confirm the settings. Everything was in order and just to be sure, the Front Desk created a test key that still was not able to access any guest room other than the one it was intended for. We apologize for any inconvenience this experience has caused you and hope you are pleased with our offer provided in a private message.
