“Delightful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza while in Minneapolis for a business trip. What a pleasant surprise! This little hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance of everything, including the light rail stations. The front desk staff was very nice, and the room was wonderful. Very clean, comfortable and quiet! I also had breakfast both mornings at the little restaurant and it was great. Nice wait staff, and the prices were surprisingly affordable. I would stay here again!

I am very dissatisfied with the management and the entirety of my stay at this hotel. We called ahead informing the hotel that we were having a bachelorette party and upon checking in the staff even acknowledged us having the party and mentioned there were several other bachelor & bachelorette parties and two weddings going on during the night as well. About an hour into us entertaining in the room, Jackie --, knocked on our door. I’m assuming she was a part of management but wouldn’t know because she didn’t give us her title and lacked any sort of professionalism. She then began to scold us for our “unacceptable noise level” and said we would be “kicked out for our inappropriate behavior. This was our only warning”. Not only was this extremely rude, but she did not approach us as mid-twenty somethings that just paid for a very expensive room. Our noise levels were definitely not "unacceptable" for being 10pm, and we went through all the necessary procedures to inform the hotel that it was a bachelorette party and we even asked what could and could not be done at the hotel. Jackie -- was unprofessional, rude, and frankly made our entire experience horrible from that point on. None of the other parties (which we could hear loudly in the halls) were treated this way, assuming because they continued to be loud. The time of our party wasn’t even unreasonable- we were told our noise levels were unacceptable at 10:00pm, not something outrageous like 2am! I could even go as far as saying it was discrimination, most of our bridal party is women of color. I will never be staying at the Crowne plaza again, and I definitely have been telling everyone I know not to stay there for it’s horrible service, rude staff, and inconsistent treatment of customers. I hope that you look into this situation and correct the treatment of your customers. Jackie -- should be fired, the bachelorette party for the bride was completely ruined because of how ill-treated she felt. We were not treated at all like respected customers. The room was not up to our standards for the expensive price we paid. There was no continental breakfast or extra perks for the price, no parking.

We reserved a room for a bachelorette party in July 2012. When we called to reserve the room, we made it very clear that it was for a bachelorette party. So, when we checked in, it was no surprise to learn at the front desk that there were three other bachelorette parties, a bachelor party and a wedding going on that same evening. We thought that was perfect since disturbing people was not on our agenda for the evening.

Lo and behold, at 10:30 we received a noise complaint from what we assumed was the room next door. We had been talking and laughing at reasonably normal volumes given that it was a Saturday night at 10:30. Instead of politely mentioning that quiet hours had started at 10:30, the hotel staff took the opportunity to be as rude as possible. Jackie -- who was working the front desk came and told us that, "You are unacceptably loud. This is your one warning and any further noise violations will result in eviction from the hotel." We assumed then that there must be a family with children close by and promptly got ready and left for the bars. That said, as paying customers, we expected to be treated like paying customers and not like naughty college students in a dorm. For the record, none of us has been in college for several years, but apparently Jackie got to reprimand us like we were.

As we were getting ready to go, another large party of 10+ people were escorted from the hotel and a security officer stopped by to ask if we were "smoking anything." Since they were also on our floor, we figured that perhaps we had gotten blamed for some of their noise.

On our way out, we stopped at the front desk and apologized. We mentioned that it would have been nice if they had informed us upon check-in that quiet hours started at 10:30, so we would have known to be quieter. We were met only with a condescending smile. We also inquired as to why we were placed next to a family with kids instead of another party when we had explicitly mentioned that we were a bachelorette party. We were told that they cannot honor all requests. So, instead of taking the opportunity to problem solve and offer us a room next to a louder room or on a different floor, we were left out to dry. I can only assume that Crowne Plaza enjoys the revenue that it gets from having parties reserve and pay for rooms, then promptly escorting them out before they can spend the night.

A few individuals stayed behind in the room to wait for a friend and were met again with a noise complaint from the front desk. This was 3 people sitting in a room and chatting while waiting for a friend, not a raucus party. As many reviewers have mentioned, the walls are clearly paper-thin. They were made to sign a document saying that they had been warned and they were not allowed to stay in the hotel over night. Is this really how you treat paying customers?

Upon returning from the bars, we were met with scrutiny from a different front desk person who was clearly ready to evict us if we made any noise in the lobby on our way up to the room. We went to bed silently and sure enough were awoken by a screaming infant at 7am.

Overall, the hotel was extremely unaccomodating, both to the family and to our party. They made no effort to resolve the situation, were rude, disengenuous and treated us like children instead of paying customers. I can only speculate that the staff are extremely racist since when I (as a white woman) interacted with the staff they were polite and when one of the African-American women answered the door and spoke to the staff, they were incredibly rude. As a result of the ineptitude of the staff, the family was disturbed and our party atmosphere was ruined by the threat of imminent eviction if we so much as sneezed.

Overall, this was a waste of money and I do not recommend paying for a room at the Crowne Plaza, as you will probably get kicked out before you can enjoy it.

We stayed here for a wedding in another hotel downtown. Our price at the Crowne Plaza was about 1/3 what we would have spent at the other hotel just 1 block away. The room was a bit small, but comfortable and clean. The view was pretty good (what can you expect in a metro area downtown). The front desk staff was helpful and nice. We got a great deal that included 2 drinks, appetizer, and parking. The quesadilla was the best I've EVER had! The bartender was great, so polite and helpful! We will stay here again if we are staying downtown.

Got this hotel for $60 + tax as a Priceline express deal and was very pleased. They upgraded my room to the executive (top) floor, and the front desk clerk assured me I wouldn't be near the loud bachelor party group that passed through the lobby as I was checking in (without me asking). The Executive room included free breakfast on that floor, which was nice. Internet is free on the 7th floor since their conference center is on that floor. Nothing fancy, but a nice solid place. Parking was $11, cheaper than many other garages.

Very nice and clean hotel near the Government Plaza light rail stop and the US Bank building. Walking distance to Nicollet Mall, restaurants, bars, etc. Room was MASSIVE with two comfy double beds, internet worked well. Breakfast was nice, though nothing spectacular. Definitely worth staying if you need to be downtown.

My two friends and I just spent the weekend at the Crown Plaza to attend a music festival nearby. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was extremely clean, and the room was spacious for 3 girls! But the highlight for us was how nice everyone at the front desk was. We got great restaurant recommendations and help finding our way around town. It was a lovely stay.
