I was terribly disappointed with the price and lack of quality in this "sheraton". Past the lobby, the site was dirty and run down. The hot tub was not hot and the whole pool area needed cleaning. Altough the bed itelf was not bad, the bathroom in our room was so small that the door could not be opened all the way due to the fact that it would hit the shower extension rod that curved out over the toilet. The clearance space between the toilet and the door was about an inch and a half. Which meant that there was little room for one person, let alone two to use the mirror and bathroom for getting ready (and dangerous if one is sitting on the seat and the door swings open!) This is a big deal if you are trying to get ready to be in a wedding.
Being from Minnesota we often get down to the Cities and have stayed at several hotels. We choose this hotel, one we had never stayed at before, because it was close to the facilities where my friend's wedding was going to be and because of information I was told on the phone. Here's my story:
When I called the hotel to check on the amenities I specifically asked if they had continental breakfast and we were told yes until 11 AM. This was a big deal because my friend and I wanted something in the morning to just tide us over until the wedding. However, when we got there and went up to the room we realized we hadn't been told about breakfast so I called down to the desk. The clerk informed us that we were not eligble for the continental breakfast. It is part of some plans/packages but it wasn't listed on mine. She told us that we could go to the restaurant and pay for breakfast. I pulled out the sheet on which I wrote my notes during the phone reservation and tried to explain that I thought we had been told that there was a continental breakfast available to us and told her the time. She informed me that there must have been some mistake and that I could pay for breakfast. I tried to calmly explain that I didn't think that was fair since that is part of the reason we choose this location and there was an implication by one of their clerks (I called the hotel directly) about the breakfast . We could easily have stayed at a number of other minneapolis hotels. She insisted there wasn't anything she could do and offered no other solution besides us paying for breakfast. So I asked for a manager. Although the manager had just checked us in, we were told she was not there. OK., maybe she really did leave, but once again, the clerk offered no further assistance, so I asked when the manager would be in next. She stated a manager would be there in the morning. I asked for a specific name so I wouldn't get a run around.
So in the morning I checked in with the manager, who basically said that there must have been some misunderstanding and that I could pay for breakfast. I explained that I didn't think that the error should be at my expense. She then said that they could go back and listen to the recorded message from my phone reservation and if I was to receive breakfast, that they could credit my account. The problem with her little theory was that I would have to Pay for breakfast and HOPE that it would later get reimbursed. I found that a little scary. So I asked her to look into it and to get back to me either way. I even asked if she needed the confirmation number to help expediate the process-she turned me down. I asked her to leave a message so I knew whether or not we could count on having breakfast the next day or not.
Now I know breakfast is not that expensive, but at this point it was the principle of the whole thing. And here's what really disappointed me, beyond the lack of cleanliness, the ridiculously high priced room, and the lack of clarity/accuracy in the reservation process--the manager NEVER got back to me. That evening there was no message on our phone and I even called the front desk and asked if there was a messge left for us--and there was nothing, not even an appology for being "too busy" or what ever excuse they could have come up with. That is NOT PROFESSIONAL. This hotel, will NOT get our business again, and I certainly encourage others to stay at any of the numerous, clean, fair-priced, professional hotels in the Minneapolis area. Don't be taken in with the Sheraton name--it is not what it appears to be and definitely is not worth the price!
