Four Points by Sheraton Minneapolis

This is a great hotel. It is right of of I-35W. Downside it is north of the bridge collapes and right after they divert traffic... so you have to travel 1) thru downtown Minneapolis streets to get there or 2) drive way around thru St Paul. It is in an industrial area.

Once you get there... great place, and actually getting back to downtown Minneapolis is EASY once you do it once. This hotel is having to give breaks because of the bridge collapse. If you are from LA, Atlanta, Dallas, Washington DC... Minneapolis' traffic is not bad at all. 15min from hotel to Target center on city streets. You actually go thru a bohemian area of Minneapolis north of the river. Probably something that a traveler would not have seen if they were downtown.

I booked a package through Priceline. I had the choice of several other hotels, but not knowing Minneapolis, I picked this one. I wish that I'd have chosen another one. I arrived at the hotel at 10:30pm on a Friday night, and the road construction from the I35 bridge collapse made getting to the hotel from the airport more difficult than it normally would have been. We were checked in within 10 minutes, and the front desk staff members were all very nice despite fielding about 6 different phone calls during our check in. Apparently, there was a wedding reception in the hotel, and guests were getting lost en route. We got to our room and it was directly across from the noisy wedding crowd, so I called the front desk and asked for a different quieter room. They stuck us on the top (8th floor), which was really too warm; there were no vents in the hallways and it was just crazy hot up there! The a/c in the room never quite worked properly throughout our stay. And the pool facility was old and rundown, with paint chipped off of the pool. It definitely looked nicer in the pictures! And the pool area, while open, seems to have been rented out for a birthday party. There were about 24 kids jumping in the pool and yelling and screaming. Not something that adults could really enjoy. Overall, I was not pleased with the Four Points by Sheraton, and I probably would not stay there again.

Stayed here for three nights last week. Location as other travellers have mentioned is weird... off the highway in an industrial park. Reasonably close to downtown... about a 15 min drive.

Pulling up to the hotel brings a feeling of disappointment.. the exterior needs a serious reno, with the old dated Sheraton logo and some cracked stucco. But once inside, the lobby is decent enough.

The rooms, well, they are adequate. You can tell they renovated recently, but it was all done on the cheap. As a result, everything feels low quality. I have to say the rooms were very clean however. The beds though... lets just say my back has never cracked more times than when I woke up in these beds. I am guessing the only rooms with the new Sheraton beds are the suites.. because we were in a room with two doubles and the beds were just horrible.

There's no complimentary brekkie here, and the room coffee will put you on a run to the bathroom pretty fast...

Staff are pretty nonchalant.. mostly young people who didn't really seem to care too much about how things are going. Didn't ask how my stay was, or get back to me when we asked for a different room with a King bed.

overall, i wasn't expecting much, but with the Sheraton Four Pts. name I was expecting a better experience. Wouldn't stay again unless it was really cheap (less than 70) on Priceline.

The room was worn and old.

Bed was great.

Floor was filthy looking. Stains EVERYWHERE. I hated to just look at it.

Free Internet!

Bathroom was very tiny. Bathroom would get foggy and hot very quick.

Rooms nice and spacious.

Felt housekeeping was slacking. Did not put iron back the whole week. Did not put extra toilet tissue back on roll.

Only reason I would probably go back to this hotel is if they were giving it away at a discounted rate or I was staying for only one night. It was way overpriced for the quality of the accomodations.

I was terribly disappointed with the price and lack of quality in this "sheraton". Past the lobby, the site was dirty and run down. The hot tub was not hot and the whole pool area needed cleaning. Altough the bed itelf was not bad, the bathroom in our room was so small that the door could not be opened all the way due to the fact that it would hit the shower extension rod that curved out over the toilet. The clearance space between the toilet and the door was about an inch and a half. Which meant that there was little room for one person, let alone two to use the mirror and bathroom for getting ready (and dangerous if one is sitting on the seat and the door swings open!) This is a big deal if you are trying to get ready to be in a wedding.

Being from Minnesota we often get down to the Cities and have stayed at several hotels. We choose this hotel, one we had never stayed at before, because it was close to the facilities where my friend's wedding was going to be and because of information I was told on the phone. Here's my story:

When I called the hotel to check on the amenities I specifically asked if they had continental breakfast and we were told yes until 11 AM. This was a big deal because my friend and I wanted something in the morning to just tide us over until the wedding. However, when we got there and went up to the room we realized we hadn't been told about breakfast so I called down to the desk. The clerk informed us that we were not eligble for the continental breakfast. It is part of some plans/packages but it wasn't listed on mine. She told us that we could go to the restaurant and pay for breakfast. I pulled out the sheet on which I wrote my notes during the phone reservation and tried to explain that I thought we had been told that there was a continental breakfast available to us and told her the time. She informed me that there must have been some mistake and that I could pay for breakfast. I tried to calmly explain that I didn't think that was fair since that is part of the reason we choose this location and there was an implication by one of their clerks (I called the hotel directly) about the breakfast . We could easily have stayed at a number of other minneapolis hotels. She insisted there wasn't anything she could do and offered no other solution besides us paying for breakfast. So I asked for a manager. Although the manager had just checked us in, we were told she was not there. OK., maybe she really did leave, but once again, the clerk offered no further assistance, so I asked when the manager would be in next. She stated a manager would be there in the morning. I asked for a specific name so I wouldn't get a run around.

So in the morning I checked in with the manager, who basically said that there must have been some misunderstanding and that I could pay for breakfast. I explained that I didn't think that the error should be at my expense. She then said that they could go back and listen to the recorded message from my phone reservation and if I was to receive breakfast, that they could credit my account. The problem with her little theory was that I would have to Pay for breakfast and HOPE that it would later get reimbursed. I found that a little scary. So I asked her to look into it and to get back to me either way. I even asked if she needed the confirmation number to help expediate the process-she turned me down. I asked her to leave a message so I knew whether or not we could count on having breakfast the next day or not.

Now I know breakfast is not that expensive, but at this point it was the principle of the whole thing. And here's what really disappointed me, beyond the lack of cleanliness, the ridiculously high priced room, and the lack of clarity/accuracy in the reservation process--the manager NEVER got back to me. That evening there was no message on our phone and I even called the front desk and asked if there was a messge left for us--and there was nothing, not even an appology for being "too busy" or what ever excuse they could have come up with. That is NOT PROFESSIONAL. This hotel, will NOT get our business again, and I certainly encourage others to stay at any of the numerous, clean, fair-priced, professional hotels in the Minneapolis area. Don't be taken in with the Sheraton name--it is not what it appears to be and definitely is not worth the price!
