“Comfortable but could do better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

The Good:
Lovely building. Beautifully restored. Great public space
Good location - convenient and downtown
Good sized bedrooms
Decor fine
Good bathrooms, nice shower
Nice gym
Efficient front desk

The Bad
* My bed looked liked someone had taken a nap in it. I had to check to make sure it had been freshly made when I came in. Some of the pillows didn't fit the cases and were frankly way past their best. Gave an overall frumpy look to the bed. Given how the Westin focus their advertising on their 'heavenly bed' I was very surprised
* Some of the breakfast staff were the worst I have encountered in a long time. Very poor service especially if you arrive just after the main rush
* I am a gold Starwood preferred guest but this seemed to matter naught at the front desk. Frosty treatment and told I was not being given an upgrade (compulsory when you are a gold member if they have room) because they were full. No apology given, no compensation offered, nothing. Made you wonder why bother with a loyalty programme if you don't feel rewarded.
Overcharged for wifi on the bill. Had to have this corrected.

Overall: The feeling here is people are just doing their job, but there is no special experience feeling for the customer. You are made to feel processed rather than valued. Maybe it has something to do with the size, maybe it's poor management. Not sure but it's not somewhere I would come back to. Minneapolis is a big city with plenty of choice. There is surely better than this.

“AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

We just completed a 5 day stay @ the Westin Minneapolis. We had a block of 45 rooms for a wedding and could not have been more pleased with all the Westin had to offer.

The staff was exceptional. It seemed their main mission was to make our guests comfortable and happy. They met all needs with a smile. Our guests raved about the accomodations. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The ammenities were excellent. Many family members thought the restaurant, in particular the breakfast, was excellent.

The event staff who helped us coordinate the wedding block, could not have been more helpful. Their guidance about room selection and other things was so helpful. Jill and Abby's expertise was beneficial in making
the event better for our guests . There was nothing they could have done to make the entire experience
any better. The exceeded all expectations.

The Westin is an excellent facility and we would heartly recommend it for any visit but in particular for a large group. Working with them was more than a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: suite 311 was so large- great for a group to gather suite 532 was perfect for a bride to dress

“Amazing property and wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012 via mobile

This is a great property built into an old bank right in downtown. The rooms are impeccable and I had probably the best nights sleep of my life.

I also highly recommend the restaurant (B.A.N.K). Great selection of cocktails and a fresh menu.

“Comfortable and centrally located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Just returned home from two nights in Minneapolis where I stayed at the Westin. The stay was quite enjoyable. I had no complaints about the room, which was spacious, clean and clearly fairly recently renovated. The king size bed was very comfortable and the bathroom, with its double shower head, one of the better I've experienced in US hotels. The service was generally good and staff very friendly, with the exception of the young lady in the reception who checked me in. Nothing really bad with her either, just that a little smile and a friendly word beyond business would never hurt. Everyone else in the reception and the concierge did make up for it through their friendliness and helpfulness.
Another plus with the hotel is its location smack in the middle of downtown Minneapolis. The hotel is a walking distance from virtually anywhere one wants to go in the city (my main destination was the Convention Center, which was about 15 minutes briskly on foot). And if one is weary of the cold (it snowed on October 25!), one can get to most places never leaving the warmth of the Skyway.

“Incompetent Front Desk”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Showed up yesterday with a guaranteed reservation after a long flight. The front desk told me that there were no rooms available. They said that nearby hotels were all booked but were able to find me a room at an inn outside of downtown and would cover the cost. I then called my travel agent and was immediately able to get a room at the Grand Hotel two blocks away. Apparently the front desk was trying to stuff me in the cheapest room they could find and didn't offer to pay for my stay at the Grand.
