Saffron is the best Middle-Eastern/Mediteranean restaurant in which I have ever dined. Really. Its offerings use the very freshest ingredients in unexpected ways. Flavors are subtle and blend together in amazingly intricate ways. During our recent visit we tried nine dishes. A kibbeh was moist and flavorful; a dish of eggplant and unusual wild mushrooms was to die for. A Chicken “Bisteeya” was elegant. The star, however, was a fish tagine. It was cooked to perfection. The fish (cod this time, although the our server advised that other fish are used depending on market availability) was moist and had absorbed the flavors of the vegitables and a fragrant tomato broth. It says a lot about a restaurant when one can say that the most ordinary dish was a perfectly cooked and seasoned branzini. Our final dish was what the restaurant calls a ganache cake. Actually, it was a brownie-like confection made with pure chocolate with a drizzle of caramel and home made (I think) ice cream. Very very highly recommended.
