Love going through the dam.
Very interesting to see all that water and watch the fill and empty it. Have been through in a boat and it was exciting and a learning experince.

Great place to take the kids and watch the boats. Has a nice interpretive center. It is kept clean and can be a wonderful educational experience for kids and adults alike.

“Great place for kids to learn about locks and tug boats”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Exploring the lock and dam with kids can be free fun and some learning besides. You can walk over portions of the locks and enter the viewing deck for expansive views of the Mississippi River and the banks on both sides. If you are in luck, a boat will come and you can watch the operation of the locks as boats are carried from one level of the river to another. There is the occasional tug boat pushing a number of barges, another interesting sight to see. Hawks and eagles fly through this area and offer views of their majestic flight. Depending on the day you may have the area to yourselves or there may be other people biking, running or sitting and watching the river. Some areas have a parking fee.

“Taken for granted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

The lock and dam is a very interesting place if you take the time to explore it. Access is a little tricky. You need to drive or walk down from West River Parkway down a long ramp that starts just north of the Ford Bridge.

“okay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

I don't understand why this is even on a list to be rated. You go and no one is there. It's just a little dam alone with nothing to see.
