“I can't believe I'm the first to write a review about this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2005

Wow. I thought for sure Pizza Luce would have been reviewed by now. Hopefully I do this place the justice it deserves.

Pizza Luce is an eatery in Minneapolis that consists of two locations: One in downtown on North Fourth Street and the other on Lyndale Avenue South. I've eaten at both of them and they are both a delight, but do seem to have minor differences in ambience.

The first time I ate at Pizza Luce was after a concert at the Quest Club. It was a short walking distance from the concert venue. It was after 10 PM but Pizza Luce was still swinging- their downtown hours are until 2:30 AM Sun-Thurs and until 3:30 AM Fri-Sat.

The atmosphere of the Pizza Luce in downtown Minneapolis is definitely nicer than your average pizza joint. The dining room is dimly lit. Candelight graces most of the tables. The room buzzes with conversations and music.

Most of the employees at Pizza Luce are eclectic individuals, and people-watching is half the fun.

Their menu is extremely varied with tons to choose from. You can have your basic pepperoni pizza. Or, you can go nuts with their gourmet pizza menu and order something like the Mashed Potato Pizza, which I've personally tried and extremely enjoyed (as a matter of fact, I figured out how to make it at home). Most pizzas come with a wheat crust.

Pizza Luce also offers an extremely diverse vegetarian selection, and you can also have soy cheese substituted on any pizza for an additional charge. They also offer a choice of red sauce, or their speciality "bianca" sauce which is a blend of olive oil and italian seasonings.

If you're not up for pizza, Pizza Luce also offers a full selection of hoagies and pastas. And, of course, dessert.

Eating at Pizza Luce won't break the bank- most pizzas come in a choice of sizes, starting at around $10 for the smallest. We always have tons of leftovers.

We've also visited the Lyndale location a few times. It is definitely smaller than the downtown location, and has more of a "neighborhood get-together" vibe. We found that we had a harder time melting into the scene.

The next time you're in Minneapolis, give Pizza Luce a try! You won't regret it.
