“Great Meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Had a Friday night meal with my wife and daughter. The restaurant is visually very appealing. The wait staff was available when ever we needed them. We began with three starters - I would strongly suggest items off the dumpling menu. They were a wonderful surprise. The steak selection covered grass fed, natural and prime. We went off the natural selection and the meat was very good. We had their potato wedges which I would also highly recommend. I like the fact that Burch was able to do a steak restaurant that is different then the big names. No whopper steaks and sides that could feed a small village. We finished with deserts which were excellent. We have added Burch to our regular rotation of wonderful dining here in the Twin Cities. We are looking forward to trying the Pizza side next.

“pizza with some nice twists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Service was great, and the pizzas are above average. Of course, so are the prices if you don't choose judiciously. A scallop app was more expensive than a pizza. All in all, we enjoyed an upscale pizza dinner, with lovely salads and apps, plus cocktails and wine, so that is a unique mix of foods, and a welcome one for the neighborhood. We were mixed on the downstairs room. My wife loved it, i thought it was somewhat like a bunker, and the two teenagers with us were unmoved. Burch does not replace Black Sheep Pizza in downtown MPLS as my favorite pizza in the city, but a pizza + a full bar is a welcome option.

“Outstanding meal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

I would agree with the many references to the noise level of the upstairs restaurant. They really should do something to baffle the noise. With that said, the dishes were outstanding and the waitstaff exceptional. We had a party of 12 (perhaps we were the loud ones?!?) and had a chance to sample a wide range of dishes. Not one was disappointing! Steak was perfectly cook, dumplings were fantastic and the beet and tomato salad quite lovely. Jane the sommelier was very helpful and fun to chat with.

“Varied menu, really good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

This is one really slick, well run restaurant with a very eclectic menu. It's a steak house, but none of the four of us had steak, and we were all very pleased with our meals. The décor is modern and tasteful, and the very large space is divided almost equally into a large bar room, a restaurant, and a pizza house (in the basement).

Menu prices are really good considering Burch is almost downtown. Some of the steaks are quite expensive, but other items on the menu are more reasonable. My wife and I split an endive salad with huge chunks of bacon and a creamy dressing and we loved it. Our friends split a Bibb salad that was more lightly dressed and also very good. We chose sides of kale and carrots, both nicely seasoned.

For our main dishes, two had salmon, done perfectly; one had fall-apart tender pork shoulder on polenta, and I had 3 dumplings (of the six or so on offer). The dumplings defy description, and each was very different from the other. The Schupfnudels (rolled dumplings) are long and slender, almost like pasta, the cheese dumpling came with lamb stroganoff, and the third (kinkhali) was like a small pastry purse containing nicely flavored ground veal and pork. Three dumplings don't sound like a lot of food, but I couldn't finish.

Servers were well trained, friendly, and there when they were needed.

Hooray for Burch! They have many good bottles of wine under $30 at a time when other restaurants seem unable to go below that price.

We were worried about finding a place to park, but Burch has opened up a lot just north of the restaurant on Colfax. They also have valet parking on Colfax, and the restaurant front door is on Colfax.

We were there at 5:30, so the noise level was tolerable.

The date of our visit was May 8, 2013.

“Good place for a fight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

When you start yelling no one will notice. Everyone is yelling. This is the loudest fine dining experience in the Twin Cities. Everything is good: The service, the food, the booze, the atmosphere. And everything is expensive: The food, the booze, the parking. Whether a dinner for two for roughly $150 (or more) works for you is completely subjective. What's not in question: The quality of the meat and its preparation. First-rate.
Burch is as good or better than any other steak place in Minneapolis or St. Paul. It's no more expensive than Manny's. Located in the Kenwood area, up the street from the Walker Art Museum, it's less "Republican" than most steak places; this is a crowd of mostly affluent carnivorous Democrats. Maybe that explains the yelling.
It's clearly working, the place is booked solid on weekends.
