This hotel wants so badly to be hip and cool in what has become a very hip and cool town-Minneapolis. Unfortunately, nobody told them that you actually have to work at it. Sure, the hotel sports a modern and hip design but that is where it ends. This place is ruined by an apparently untrained and uncaring staff. They are just downright not nice at this hotel. Zero attention to guest relations. Zero attention to detail. Never a smile or a warm welcome or a thank you from anybody here. No follow up to guest requests, etc. There are much nicer hotels in Minneapolis who somehow get it right with their midwest charm and warmth. In fact, you have to try pretty hard to get bad service here. Until you get to the Graves 601. Unfortunately, the Graves 601 is nothing more than a Wannabe in this trendsetting town.

My husband and two other couples got together to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversaries. Our stay at the Graves Hotel was fantastic. First, we had a complimentary upgrade. The rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet. The showers were so wonderful. We loved the location, within walking distance to everything we wanted.

We arrived at the Graves for a week long stay that also included 3 days of a business conference. While the entry is somewhat confusing (registration is on the 4th floor) Everyone was friendly and helpful in getting us checked in. Our room was very modern, think VERY upscale Ikea in design. The only thing we found odd was the lack of drawers for undergarments and such. There were shelves, but they were out in the open, as well as 1 of the closets being open and the other being small but conventional. We needed more hangers and they were brought promptly.

One of the reading lights above the bed was not staying on and the staff came right up and appeared to fix it, but said if we had any more problems with it they would replace the built in fixture. Well it did start acting up again, but it was late and we decided to report it in the morning. When we called to report the problem, they asked if 10 minutes was too soon to come and replace the fixture. I was needless to say, impressed.

The bed was hands down the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, including my very expensive bed at home! The bathroom is modern, and the shower is to die for! Top notch soaps/shampoo and such. The room Mini bar is VERY well appointed with *everything* you might *possibly* need when you are staying in a hotel room, and I don't mean just drinks and snack! I'll let others find the surprises! :)

We did have lunch one day in the hotel restaurant/bar area, and while it was very good, it was not cheap either. I guess one should not expect that in a 5 star hotel however. Drink prices at the bar were also expensive but we mostly went to the surrounding night spots for a little bit better prices. The location of the hotel is in the center of the club district, and it was nice being able to go out and have a short walk back to our room.

There were several venues close by that offered nightly live music, Sports venues,, a short tram ride or walk to the Metrodome, as well as being right across the street from the Target center. The new Minnesota Twins baseball stadium is also under construction a block away. There is a large theatre within the same building/block as well as a private spa, restaurants, ice cream, cookie places not to mention Hooters and the Hard Rock Cafe!

The only cons I can come up with is the rather pricey internet access and the lack of drawers for clothes storage.

Just got back from my second stay at Graves 601, both while on business. This is a great hotel, with modern and comfortable decor and good sized rooms. It's hip, but not so much that business travelers feel uncomfortable. I was upgraded to a spacious sunlit corner room with a king size bed, a sofa and a 42 inch plasma TV mounted on the wall. The bed was very comfortable with a plush duvet. There is a small self service business center with two free internet-connected computers. You can print out boarding passes there too.

The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was the restaurant, Cosmos which was expensive, but the food and the service, though pretentious, were not very good. There was almost no one having dinner; granted, it was 9 pm, but you would expect some activity. (The hotel seemed to be at very low occupancy. The other restaurant, Bradstreet Crafthouse Restaurant, is closed on Sunday and Monday.) In the morning, I went into Cosmos for breakfast at 8 am and there was literally no one in the restaurant, not even staff. I had to go into the kitchen and ask if the restaurant was open. It was, and a waiter eventually appeared but never apologized. On the breakfast menu, there is a $10 "Traditional Continental Breakfast" that includes pastries but no coffee or other beverages. Huh? And do we really need an amuse bouche at breakfast? The restaurant needs a makeover in food, price and service. I would definitely stay at Graves again, but would avoid the restaurant.

Just returned from staying at the Graves 601. I have stayed at many downtown Minneapolis hotels. This one is definitely my favorite now. The decor was contemporary and very upscale. It really adds to the downtown experience. The Cosmos bar area was very attractive. The room was very spacious - I didn't expect that! The TV was incredible. The staff was superb and VERY accommodating!! The Bell Man went out of his way for us. It was going to be rainy in the morning and we had left our jackets in the car. He went to our car for us and retrieved our coats within 15 minutes. Everybody was friendly and went out of their way for us. The beds were VERY COMFORTABLE! And it was quiet! We had early wake up calls for the event we were downtown for and needed to go to bed early. It was no problem falling asleep - it was very quiet. I traveled with my 2 teenage daughters. They absolutely loved the hotel and can't wait to return again. Being connected to the skywalk on a rainy weekend made it great too - we never had to go outside!! Plenty of restaurants and activities within a couple of blocks and right outside the door. Great Location!! This is definitely one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in and I travel quite a bit!! There wasn't anything we didn't like!
