Owner description: The Museum of Russian Art is the only museum in North America devoted to preserving and presenting all forms of Russian art and artifacts. Housed in a beautifully renovated historic building, the Museum’s multi-level galleries provide a tranquil and intimate setting for TMORA’s exhibitions and educational events. Now on view: Women in Soviet Art: focusing on the representation and self-representation of women in Soviet art, this exhibition explores the roles and perspectives of women under the Soviet system from the 1950s–1980s.Jewish Life in the Russian Empire: Exhibited for the first time in 1867 at the seminal ethnographic exhibit in Moscow, the photographs depict a unique record of Jewish life in Tsarist Russia. It tells the story of Jewish communities within the Pale of Settlement, a region where permanent residency of Jewish peoples was allowed. Jewish Life in the Russian Empire will be on display in the lower gallery.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you have any interest in the former USSR and its republics, then this museum is a must. The building was renovated specifically for the various exhibits. Currently there are two exhibits -women in Russian art (think factory worker or labourer smiling while harvesting the bounty of the Russian prairie while serving mother Russia - that kind of things, but really well done paintings). The exhibit on Jewish communities was absolutely fascinating. The gift shop was very good. Bought a great arts and culture book on Kazakhstan (not many in English, I can assure you).

“Who knew!?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is the proverbial gem, a private collection shared in a former church. Great re-use of space, phenomenal collection and super professional in the curation and exhibits. Awesome gift shop too.

“Russian Art Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a jewel of a museum. The exhibits change every few months so there is good variety. It is a good introduction to the various Russian artists, well lit, with a knowledgeable staff.
