“Watch out- Tom Keller, Chef. Steven Brown is as good or arguably Better!”
Good thing Tilia is a neighborhood restaurant in Minneapolis and not in Yountville or St. Helena or Healdsburg! Otherwise it would compete with the best restaurants there and beat most of them. It has become our must visit restaurant during our visits to Minneapolis from Napa, CA, twice a year to spend time with Grand Children. The entire family including young children love to eat there and enjoy the friendly hospitality of the chef and the staff. Whether it is arctic char, Branzini or Wild Boar NY strip steak, each entre' is unique in taste and presentation. Even the sides are tasty and unusual. The prices for such fine dishes won't break the bank either. First courses are between $8-12, entre's between $15-$22(for the steak) and desserts $6-$7. The restaurant offers an excellent children's menu at incredibly reasonable prices of $7 for older kids and $3 for little ones. It also offers an extensive beer menu a varied but excellent wine list.
Chef Brown has thoughtfully designed every item in the restaurant from the name (Tilia-a Latin term for Linden tree, since the restaurant is located in the Linden Hills neighborhood) to every dish even the children's menu. True to its billing, American Bistro, it offers dishes like American Cassoulet or Double Dogs. And did I mention the Brunch menu? Only served on Saturday-Sunday, it must be on every Brunch lover's bucket list. It is simply to die for. The only challenge is waiting in a long line during busy periods since it does not take reservations and putting up with a noisy and cramped quarters. It offers superb food at reasonable prices worth all the wait and noise!
