“Nice hotel, good for business travel”

The Depot Minneapolis, A Renaissance Hotel

Jun 14, 2008

I have stayed here many times on business. This is a nice hotel for business - built at the site of the old train depot. It is not fancy, but it is comfortable, the food (room service and the bar/restaurant) is fine. The staff has always been great - very helpful. It is more near offices, government buildings and some restaurants - not much in the way of shops and other businesses. Although the hotel is in quite a nice, historic building, this is not a scenic area. This hotel is preferred by myself and my business associates when they visit.

“Intriguing hotel on a noisy street”

I was a business traveler at this hotel when a teenage cheerleader convention hit. As soon as I heard the giggling and saw the foot traffic on my hallway upon arrival, I turned back around to the front desk and asked for a new room. They upgraded me to the club level (comp) immediately. Nice room, much quieter. My only complaint about this hotel is that it faces a street with lots of traffic, especially lots of sirens. It must be near a police station or fire station. I had to sleep with earplugs, but could still hear the sirens. Room service was good except for the day they neglected to note my breakfast order. (I find these days that the door hangars are far more reliable than the human beings taking the orders over the phone.) Overall, I found the service to be good, the bed to be exceptionally comfortable, and the room to have nice appointments (flat screen TV, blackout shades, multiple power sources). There's free wireless access in the well-appointed lobby, too.

We spent New Years Eve here with our daughter and some other friends. They offered a very nice pacckage New Years Eve for the kids.
The ice rink is a must see, it is an actual old train depot. The hotel is beautiful with history at every corner.
The beds were actually real comfortable and clean.
The hotel was very clean. There were lots if dining choices and it has a very nice lounge.

My husband and I stayed here on our anniversary the weekend after Thanksgiving. It was a King Room with an in-room whirlpool. The bed was very comfortable with nice sheets. The in room whirlpool is big enough for 2 but a little noisy if you wanted to watch TV. The only drawback was that the room was on the first floor down from the Depot waterpark so during the day there was a bit of noise from kids running up and down the hall. Overall though, I was very pleased with the hotel. The public areas have many interesting train related displays and very comfortable areas to sit and relax. If you like to ice skate the attached rink is also the nicest in the Twin Cities.

“Nice hotel but service is a little choppy”

The Depot Minneapolis, A Renaissance Hotel

I stayed here two nights on business. I thought the public areas and guest rooms were well appointed, my room was a nice size and staff were courteous. Nice hotel bar and the food was pretty good. Location was terrific. My one complaint involved check-in. I reserved a room with a King Bed about six weeks before my stay; I arrived at check in time, but my room was not ready. I was told it would be ready in about 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes eventually became an hour. When I was finally shown to my room, it had twin beds rather than the king room I reserved. (It was also on the lowest floor, as far as could be from the elevator; with a view of a rooftop compressor unit). I was travelling alone, so could live with all that., but I think a high end hotel should really get the reservation right.
