Beautiful displays for Christmas from Scandinavian countries. Very neat old building that is fun to explore. Recently opened a new area with a restaurant that I am excited to try.
The American Swedish Institute offers classes in Swedish, interesting exhibits and a lovely gift shop.
Visiting the American Swedish Institute was a most pleasant experience. It has recently been remodeled and you can easily see the Sweden of today- quite modern- in the new building, and the Sweden of the past, beautiful and elegant, in the first building which used to be a house. There are wonderful volunteers who are very knowledgeable and pleased to share information with the visitors. And the food and pastries at the cafeteria are amazingly delicious!
We enjoyed our tour of the Swedish Institute. It was beautifully decorated and festive for the holiday season. The house was under construction at the time. I especially loved the heating units in each room.
The ASI is housed in an old family home of the Swedish Turnblad family. There are rooms housing other Scandinavian countries' artifacts as well. I like to visit near Christmas and see it decorated for that holiday. You can see the craftmanship that was available when homes such as this one were built. Even kids should like the tour, especially the little stairway up to a little room over looking Park Avenue. If you are of Scandinavian ancestry there is a library here. also. Scandinavians made a large percentage of Minnesota's early immigrants. Just south of downtown Minneapolis.
