We were staying at the Doubletree in downtown Minneapolis (west side, I think) and wanted to eat lunch somewhere nearby, but none of the restaurants in the dining program opens before 4 pm. Given that we would either have to walk over a mile or eat somewhere not in the program, I found this place just across the Mississippi River and because I also like Thai food, this was chosen. It was a good hike, but we got to see downtown Minneapolis and made it back to our hotel just in time as it was about to rain.
We both had satay-me chicken and other half beef. I found the peanut sauce different than that I’ve had at other Thai restaurants. It was a little spicier and very chunky? but it was good! For the main, I had the Kimchi Reuben. I went with the standard corned beef and also had regular fries. The fries were good, but the ketchup was too hot and spicy (and without warning that it wasn’t regular ketchup). The sandwich was ok but I prefer a standard Reuben. If I were to return, I would not order this! Other half ordered General Tsing’s chicken. I ended up eating part of this plus the leftovers since it was very, very hot! He ate the pizza from the night before! We took half of the sandwich and about half of the chicken/rice dish to go. The youngest waiter brought me a fried rice container for my half sandwich so I had to request something different from our server. We did use the other container later for the chicken dish so it didn’t go to waste!
Service was average in attention but very friendly. Even though there were few people since it was mid afternoon, I had to wait often for water refills, which were frequently required to put the fire out in my mouth from the food! If you like hot and spicy food, this is the place to go! The next time I’m in Minneapolis I would return here if they’re in the dining program, but I would be much more careful in my selections. They don’t mark the menu based on hot but do concerning Vegan and Gluten Free, neither of which is an issue for me! Overall, a very good neighborhood place to go! Unlike Mary and Rhoda, Sue Ann Nivens would probably like this place because it is HOT AND SPICY!
