Owner description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

“Not a Bad Seat in the House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

Visiting the now new Guthrie Theater is a treat. My Fair Lady was thoroughly enjoyable. The angle of the seating assures everyone an excellent view and the acoustics are perfect. Definitely a state of the art venue.

Walking around inside is also a treat. There is an access to an outside overhang high above where one can view St. Anthony Falls.

If you go to a Saturday matinee in the summer, there is a bountiful farmers' market adjacent to the theater. However, it closes at noon.

“Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

So, went on a tour of the Guthrie Theater a few years back for a drama project, and although I didn't find the theater itself specifically interesting, as I'm not much of a history buff, the views and the theater as a whole were extremely beautiful. I'd say it was worth the tour!

“Great place for a play”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

Attended "My Fair Lady"- wonderful Broadway quality production in a somewhat intimate theater in the round. The Guthrie is a great entertainment venue with multiple restaurants, bars, and theaters within it plus fabulous architecture and scenic views. Lovely surprise for our weekend trip.

“The Great Grey Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

If Broadway is "The Great White Way", then, the Guthrie is The Great Grey Way because it's as close as you can get to Broadway. It's a quality between local theater and Broadway. The quality is generally supurb. The building that it's in is unusual and intriguing and it's located next to another tourist attraction: The Old Mill Museum. Views outside on a large balcony deliver romantic views of the Mississippi River.

“My Fair Lady”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

The Guthrie is a real jewel in Minneapolis! I hadn't had the chance to go to a production in the new theatre until last night. I have never been disappointed by any of the plays I have been to and the location is beautiful. There are some great views of the river and falls! If you go to a Saturday matinee, I suggest you plan to hit the Mill City Farmers Market that is right next door to the theatre. My daughter and I got food there before the show and sat on the steps and enjoyed the cool breezes and the wonderful views! (The mini donuts are some of the best I have ever had!)There is convenient parking right across the street in a paid lot.
