I stayed overnight at the downtown Hilton for a little 'night out' with the kids. It was fun! We were staying here on HHonors points, which put us on a special HHonors floor with executive lounge access. The room was unremarkable. It was neither stunning nor large, but it was well-maintained and everything worked well. The decor seemed reasonably new and modern, but some elements of the room -- the mirrored closet door, especially -- felt a bit cheaply constructed. But everything was quite clean and satisfactory. I was expecting less, perhaps from reading other reviews here. But it was fine! I would go back without hesitation.

We visited the pool a few times, and it was very fun and well-kept. I meant to order cocktails to the pool area -- a special phone is provided for this purpose -- but I missed my opportunity. I did not enter the health club, but it seemed quite extraordinary, with what seemed like a dozen treadmills and a wide selection of weights and other such items. Very inspirational.

We did not eat at the hotel, but we did visit the executive lounge and enjoy the view and a few cocktails.

If I could recommend a nearby restaurant, take a one-block walk over to the Foshay tower and enjoy a meal and drinks at Keys Cafe. Not expensive, just very simple and delicious. It was just excellent, for dinner or breakfast, and they have a full bar! They were making rounds of bloody marys at 7:45 AM today!

“Poor Value for the Money”

The Hilton in downtown Minneapolis has a great location, and it's a much more luxurious hotel than I would normally patronize. Considering the room prices, however, it's way too expensive for what you get.

Consider this:

Your average independent mom 'n' pop motel or budget chain offers a toll-free number directly to the hotel. If you want to phone the Minneapolis Hilton, it's long distance.

The cheap motel offers free local calls; here they cost $1.25.

The cheap motel offers free wi-fi and free use of an Internet computer in the lobby; here the wi-fi is $15 per day and use of their computer is 50 cents per minute, with a $3.00 minimum.

The cheap motel offers a free breakfast buffet; only the Executive Floors at the Hilton provide free breakfast.

The cheap motel has free parking; Hilton charges $20 per day.

The cheap motel has a microwave and a fridge in the room; Hilton charges $8 per day for a fridge and doesn't even offer a microwave.

The cheap motels I have stayed in lately have been $37-$70 per night; the Hilton's discounted rate for my room (I was part of a meeting that booked about 400 rooms) was $193 per night.

I'm glad someone else was paying for it!

Great hotel! Loved my 2-night stay at this hotel in downtown Minneapolis. It is very close to Orchestra Hall via skywalk and not necessary to walk outside in the cold. Being Gold Hilton Honors members, we had the privilege of using the Executive Lounge. There was complimentary beverages, cookies all day, continental breakfast and appetizers in the evening! How wonderful!

Wonderful room! Very clean. The only hiccup we had was the housekeeping. I had to ask about housekeeping and they thought I didn't want any as I had my Do Not Disturb Sign up. I only had the sign up for 1 hour in the morning!!

The other plus is the restaurant we frequented the most - Peninsula Malaysian Restaurant in Nicollet Avenue in Chinatown. Great food!! Would definitely go back again!

The usual Hilton, but this one is especially spacious in the lobby and corridors.
I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, and it was a pleasant experience, just very expensive.
Good crab cakes.
Good eggs benedict.

“Spring for the business floor...it's worth it!”

Hilton Minneapolis

I stayed at the Hilton while on a business trip. I stayed on the business floor. It was a little more, but worth it. They have a nice selection of breakfast items every morning and heavy appetizers every evening. Then they put out cookies in the evening. The best part, to me, was they had lots of cold drinks, water, coffee, tea whenever I wanted it. Also the staff up there were very helpful to give me a map so I could walk around town when my conferences were over for the day. The location to the convention center was close enough. There is a Starbucks just a few blocks away. This is a great city and this was a good headquarters hotel for me. It attended a conference all day long at the convention center and then was able to walk and stretch out in the evenings. I felt very safe in the location. The room was clean and the woman who cleaned my room did a very good job. All in all, it was a good place to spend on business. I would stay in the Hilton again.
