I was helping to throw a huge event for a bunch of Italians, with many components coming together at the last minute. I booked a room, knowing that I'd be exhausted and didn't want to worry about the 45-minute drive home that night.
To begin, the staff-- Brian, Chris, Caroline,Troy, and others-- were wonderful. Helpful. Professional. Calm yet upbeat. As far as food events go, they could use one tiny little sink near the event room (c'mon, even a boring conference needs water pitchers refilled), but otherwise, the space and open areas around it worked beautifully. The bar is lovely, vibrant, and very cool. It is worth a visit, even if you are not staying at the hotel.
As for the room, this is a "concept" hotel, which translates to "really open, including the bathroom, and pretty close quarters." I woke up thinking about a huge event piece I couldn't account for (its whereabouts), and wanted to roll over and call the front desk to see if someone tucked it away. The room phone had no standard "front desk" button. It was just a plain Uniden or something handset. Luckily, I had a smartphone, had to look up aloft online, then called the hotel's main number. But sheesh. There was also a familiar but unusual and pervasive smell throughout the halls and in the room -- car air freshener? Glade? It wasn't totally unpleasant, but it felt as if something was being covered up. It got a little cloying. There is no room service, although they have a "refuel" station in the lobby that is a step up from vending machines, but not quite a Brueggers or similar spot. Good coffee.
Having said all that, the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in, the room was blissfully quiet, the staff were super accommodating, and, if we host the event here again, I will stay overnight! Longer stays may not be as comfortable as other Mpls options.
But definitely stop into the bar for a visit.
