“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2011

Just returned from HM, and I have to say I thought it was great. The hotel is beautifully decorated, very clean, modern, hip and friendly. There are a bunch of free computers to use for the internet, and there is a weight room with some nice touches like free snacks and even ear buds to listen to the TV while you are running. The location is awesome, it is literally 2 minutes from the light rail stop, just around the corner. My wife and I saved $90 by taking the rail to and from the airport, rather then taking a cab. There are come cool areas near bye that are within walking distance, and definitely worth checking out, especially the park/mill area by the Mississippi. After staying at The HM, my wife and I went to Vegas, the hotel that we stayed at in Vegas could not hold a candle to the The HM.

I was in town for a wedding, and this hotel was a great place for all the attendees to stay and mingle. We frequented the hotel bar, which was a nice space with a good selection of drinks. The entire lobby / restaurant area was inviting and comfortable, with lots of spaces to hang out without feeling like you were hanging out in a hotel lobby (if that makes sense).

The staff was friendly, and it sounds like they did a good job handling the logistics of multiple concurrent weddings (e.g., handing out the right gift bags to the right guests, and coordinating a car service to take people to the wedding). Also, the wedding group rate was pretty reasonable and seemed to be a legitimate discount off their normal rate.

The location was very convenient to the light rail, which goes directly to the airport and to the Mall of America. There are fun things to do around the hotel as well: it's close to the river, Nicollette Mall, and the original Target store. A lot of people at the wedding (including myself) had never been to Minneapolis before, so the central location was an invitation for people to explore the city.

One downside was that the hotel's immediate neighborhood is a business district, so it was relatively dead the entire weekend. However, Yelp informed me there were some good restaurants within a mile radius, if we had had time to check them out. Plus, there was a dive bar a couple of blocks away (which was nice because the hotel bar and restaurant were closed for part of our stay).

Lastly, the hotel facility was very well-decorated and comfortable. It was cool that they kept some of the vintage building features (like the facade on the elevator bay and the lettering on the outside of the building). Our room was really nice as well. The bathroom and shower were HUGE, and the bed was insanely comfortable. However (as noted by another reviewer) the view wasn't great.

A minor gripe: the printer wasn't working when we were there, so we couldn't print our boarding passes.
And some minor kudos: there are a fax machine (something you never have when you need it) and a number of Macs available in the lobby.

This was my first stay and I was skeptical but was quite pleased and will visit again. The staff was friendly and professional. I really liked the very large communal space in the lobby. I left my laptop at home but there were plentiful iMacs for customers to use. I did bring my iPad and there is free Wi-Fi in the lobby area too.

Be sure to get a wine card at check-in as they have a good selection of wine that you can get by the glass at distribution centers.

The only negative I felt was the slightly dodgy location being near a couple strip clubs. It is safe area though and I only mention it in case you are traveling with kids as you probably will get a question such as "what do they do at Rick's Cabaret".

In preparation for a visit to Iowa, I browsed hotels that would accomodate one night after arriving in Minneapolis. The price was AMAZING $66, however valet increased the cost another $40 which we are used to as residents of Ca. The room was well kept, clean, but small. The bed was welcoming and we slept well. I LOVED the shower, large and good pressure. I would rate the room a 5 if it were a little larger, had a view, and the shower had a seat. There was a reason for the heavy window covering, you look right at another building.Overall if you can get it for $100 out the door it is worth it. Otherwise, explore your options.

Room Tip: Look for street parking or you will pay $40 for valet

Stayed here for a wedding. The rooms were very quiet, comfortable and well decorated. I wanted to take the bed home with me - it was that comfortable! The first floor public area was beautifully restored and updated. The only disappointment was that the restaurant Max was not available for meals due to a pro football team staying at the hotel. We were able to get served at the bar on Friday night and could chose from either the bar or restaurant menu. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Even though the hotel seemed to be fully booked for a wedding party and forces day, it wasn't noisy and the room and bed were comfortable. Nice art deco interior. Breakfast was a bit haphazard - not enough staff who were gamely trying to bring coffee & keep buffets supplied and there was a wait for a table. Good downtown location walking distance from main precinct, theatre, riverfront.

Staff was helpful and the room made me feel rich. On the small side but it was well laid out and with the quality of the interior, I didn't really notice. Would stay again without hesitation!
