“Good Food, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

The food is excellent (green papaya salad--trust me!). The only problem is the limited summer hours (it is quite slow when the University is out of session, so it is understandable that they have more limited hours). The decor is certainly not the highlight either. The food and friendly staff will make you into a repeat customer, however...

“Always come back for more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

We have tried this restaurant numerous times. It offers selections of Thai, and Vietnamese foods. The service has always been excellent, and the staff very helpful to explain what some of the foods are. You can select on a scale of 1-5 for how spicy you eant it. My personal favorite is the Pad Thai, with a number 3 for the spice.

“Jasmine Orchid has some of the finest French-influenced Vietnamese and Thai food in Minnesota.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2011

My wife and I accidentally discovered the Jasmine Orchid. It's in a comfortable but somewhat less visible location just around the corner from Washington Ave. on Oak St. in Minneapolis's vaunted "Stadium Village" area. It is near the University of Minnesota main campus, not far from the new UM Gopher Stadium.

We tried it out because I love Thai and Vietnamese food (in that order), and my wife loves Vietnamese and Thai food (in that order). Our old favorite restaurant in Minneapolis' Uptown, a Vietnamese place, had closed down for good. Now the Jasmine Orchid is our new most favorite place.

Run by the same people that own the Jasmine Deli on Nicollet Ave. and the Jasmine 26, a fancier Asian-fusion restaurant on 26th near Nicollet Ave., the Jasmine Orchid has a wide variety of unpretentious, subtle, excellent Vietnamese and Thai meals with a French and American influence. I love curry, and the yellow curry is so good--I consider it the best in the Twin Cities--that I order an entire quart of just the sauce every several months to take home, freeze, and use in small quantities. I also love the pad Thai. My wife often gets the pho but finds other dishes excellent, as well. The cook is always willing to adjust the food, spice, and heat level to a person's needs and desires. And the manager, who is from Vietnam, regularly shops at fresh-food markets to get exactly the right foods. She and those who help her are very gracious hosts in a place that is spare but with tasteful decorations--a place where you can feel clean and comfortable whether you are dressed up or dressed very casually.

We have seen a variety of customers there, from Asians to university students in groups or as couples on a date, and to university teachers. It is a particularly popular place during the lunch hour for takeout, which is where most of its business probably is derived. But we think it has the best food, overall, of any SE Asian restaurant in the Twin Cities.

Highly under-rated kitchen & a serving staff that works hard and connects with its regulars. Very good quality food at an affordable rate.
