“Allow plenty of time to take it all in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We had heard & read good things, but were still surprised by the breadth and quality of the collection: sculpture, photography, antiquities, Impressionist paintings, Frank Lloyd Wright furniture, even an intriguing installation "recreating" the old office of a fictional curator. A friendly, attentive staff seemed genuinely concerned about our experience. The MIA was a real highlight of our trip.

“Must see if visiting the twin cities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Awesome collection of Asian art and art from all other areas of the world. Period rooms that one can walk into are pretty neat, but a large ceremony room from rural china is just awesome. Collections of modern housewares and even a Tatra Automobile are interesting for people with more modern and practical design interests. Finally, there is an area devoted to the prairie school of architecture, and a nearby house of the same type in care of the museum that can be toured, for a small fee.
The price is right.... Suggested donation only. Awesome!

“Comfortable, relaxed, friendly gallery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

I love this place. There is a kind of gentle feeling when you enter that makes you want to ogle a few works, have a coffee, maybe lunch and do some more. The MIA is not one of the ten best collections in the US, although its Asian collection is up there, but it is a wonderful place to take time to think about some work, look out the enormous windows on to the Minneapolis skyline or have lunch with friends.
