“Relax....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

My friend and I returned for our second stay at The Inn at Maple Crossing, this time joined by our husbands. We celebrated her husband's retirement with mimosas on the veranda after a relaxing breakfast, complete with historical, sometimes hysterical, commentary by Jim, one of the owners. The Inn itself is a work of historical art and love. Nancy and Jim are delightful hosts, obviously doing what they love, taking care of the inn and the visitors. I recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy being pampered, wanting to relax, read, sit on the verandas, take a walk, visit with intelligent, witty people.....

Room Tip: Just ask Nancy when you make your reservation...she'll describe the rooms. Their website is als...

This is one of the first places my wife and I went after we were married and we have been there at least 6 other times in the past 13 years. We have gone with friends, by ourselves and even stopped by for dinner one night and every time we we have been blown away by the great service, wonderful surroundings and EXCELLENT food. If you are in northern Minnesota and would like to "get away from it all" this is a wonderful place to stay and relax. All of the rooms that I have stayed in have been unique and perfectly suited for the occasion.

My sister and I stayed in "Christiana's room" in Dec 2012 for a retreat. What an amazing place! The minute you turn off the road onto the property, it's like going back in time. The colonial style property has been carefully and lovingly restored and furnished. I was amazed at all the attention to detail and surprises in every room. The owners Nancy and Jim were incredibly warm, welcoming and entertaining. They strike just the right balance of being eager to visit and share interesting stories while also respecting your privacy. We felt very well cared for. The night we were there, Jim was cooking supper (not always the case unless you make arrangements for it). We were treated to a delicious meal served course by course by the chef (Jim) in the formal dining area. Jim also cooked and served a warm wonderful breakfast for us the next morning in the original homestead part of the building (very rustic!). Since we were there for a retreat, we took advantage of several of the nice common rooms available (the library, the sunroom, the woodside room). All were bright and cheerful and met our needs perfectly. Since it was very cold (Minnesota winter!), we didn't get the opportunity to enjoy the lakeside views and grounds, but my sister has stayed there before and says they are just as amazing. They also have an incredible gift shop with very unique items, primarily from American artists and craftspeople. We had a fun time shopping and Nancy was a big help! I would highly recommend the Inn at Maple Crossing for a getaway. One thing to be aware of before you go - they do not have TV's, phones, or alarm clocks in the guest rooms since they really want people to have the opportunity to "unplug" while they're there. I think they do have internet wi-fi, although we didn't use it.

Room Tip: For a "sister" trip, Christiana's Room was perfect (2 twin beds). Each room is differ...

We stayed in the " Robin's Nest" - cheery room up on 3rd floor, with very comfy bed. Took advantage of both the indoor & outdoor porches overlooking the lake, as well as wandering down to the lake to watch the boats go by. Interesting hosts (one a former college teacher) and good breakfast. A very good value for the price! Also a cute gift shop on the premises. Nearby is the Rydell Nature Wildlife Refuge, a great place to take a walk on the paved trails.
