“One circle short of Perfect! GREAT HOTEL! A MUST STAY!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

I travel to Mankato regularly. My preferred Hotel was sold out so i thought I would take a chance on the Holiday Inn Express. I called on the phone and made a reservation without any problem. Upon my arrival there was several people standing in line waiting to be checked in. The person checking us in (AUSTIN) was great... he was able to multi task and handle the guests requests while checking in, PLUS answer several telephone calls at the same time. He never seemed stressed out and I know I would have been under these circumstances... It came my turn in line to check in and it was smooth as could be.

While on the elevator to my room on the top floor a couple other business travelers and I started chatting about the Hotel. They were making comments like "this is no ordinary Holiday Inn Express" Upon entering my spacious room I quickly understood why they were saying what they were.

I am in hotels about 150 nights per year so I am probably a little bit more critical of things, I would have given the hotel a 5 circle rating, but there is room for improvement on the nightstand. I am partially paralyzed and have a CPAP machine. It is very difficult to move the nightstand over to unplug something to plug the CPAP machine into. I would like to recommend getting a lamp with outlets in it or even a strip extension cord similar to what is on the desk in the room. That is my improvement recommendation!

Checkout was also pleasant and Jennifer was very receptive to my and other guests needs.

So if in MAKNATO, do not be afraid to stay at this hotel it is an Excellent Choice and Value!

Room Tip: Top Floor is a great choice.

Arrived in Mankato late one afternoon and expected to be turned away because we had no reservations, but to our surprise, not only did they have a room, we were upgraded to a much nicer, larger room. Several of the other hotels in town were booked. This HIE appeared to be very new, was beautiful, clean and inviting. Our king room was huge, the bed was wonderful, and the fridge and microwave were bonuses. Staff was great and could not have been more pleasant. We travel to Mankato frequently from Texas and we will never stay anywhere else while there. So pleased to see such high standards as set by HIE in Mankato!

I was just expecting a plain-Jane hotel room when I booked, so I was surprised to find such a nice modern, spacious hotel. Not only was there a leather couch, flat screen tv and luxury bedding but also a small refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom was roomy and included a tub. We didn't have time to use the pool or game room but I suppose a lot of families would find that a bonus. The breakfast set out each morning included hot items like biscuits and gravy, sausage and eggs and hot cinnamon rolls along with standard cold items, juices coffee and milk. Very well done.

We also liked that we could reach our car easily by using the side doors (card access of course). There were plenty of shops and restaurants close by. All in all we felt we got a very good value for our money.

Room Tip: We thought the ground floor rooms were convenient to get to our car and also the breakfast area.

My wife and I stayed here recently for a business trip. Overall, our stay was pleasant. The room was clean and quiet. The television had several stations that did not tune, and the paper card with the listing of the television stations was out of date and inaccurate, but these were minor annoyances; sufficiently minor that we did not even say anything to the front desk, so I can't address how responsive they might have been to them. The only real complaint we had was with the breakfast service. When we checked in, the front desk clerk explained that breakfast was available until 9:30 a.m. While this may have been technically true, the breakfast service was not actually refreshed any time after 8:30 a.m. I went down to breakfast at 8:30 to find only two omelettes remaining in the warming tray, and based on the temperature and texture of the one I ate, it had been there a while. My wife joined me at 9:00 a.m., and the only omelette remaining was the same one that had been sitting there when I arrived 30 minutes earlier. She choked that one down, and we left about 9:15. At no time during the 45 minutes I was there did anyone add anything to the breakfast service. They may have kept it open until 9:30, but if you wanted any selection, let alone anything that was actually hot, you had to arrive more than an hour before that. So if breakfast is unimportant to you, or you get up earlier than we did, this is a great place to stay. If having a breakfast included with the price of your room makes a difference in your lodging choice, you might want to give it a second thought. . . or maybe just get up earlier.

This hotel is very new, very clean, and the rooms are very quiet. We stayed in a room at the very end of the hallway near a back exit and even then it was very quiet. The breakfast was good, and the pool area is well-kept with a nice little area for babies/toddlers.

We had occasion to stay at this newer hotel on short notice due to a death in the family. We had three rooms for 11 people. They all commented on how nice this hotel was compared to other middle tier hotels, including Holiday Inn Expresses. This property felt like first class hotel the moment you stepped into the lobby. The staff was very professional. The rooms were large, complete with refrigerator and microwave, and plenty of room to spread out our stuff. The free breakfast was one of the best, including hot cinnamon rolls, hot scrambed eggs, hot sausage (catch my drift?) and apancake making machine that only required the push of a button to pump out goldent pancakes, hot off the griddle.

The location is near a major mall and a huge grocery store, plus several restaurants within walking distance.

We'll be back whenever family matters cause us to visit Mankato again.

You think "small hotel" in a medium-sized town and expect the typical slightly musty/cramped/outdated place. (Not a tought specific to Holiday Inn's, just in general).

However, this place has/is:
new;
refined (for what it is);
clean;
large-scaled (rooms long enough to easily hold 3 queen beds, and wide enough to actually walk rather than slither past the ends of the bed);
reasomably priced (with free wifi, fridge)
updated decor (no tacky art or furniture).
too small of a TV (come on, does a 42" really cost that much more than a 36?)
quiet (no outside sounds)
a ac/heater that turns on and off like a home system (rather than just loud blowing all day & night)
