“Great Rooms & Staff ... Rude Guests Hampered Things....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

We love suite style hotels, especially when traveling with our young children. We found this online a few weeks ago and saw it was brand new, so we decided to use it as a quick stop on the way home from our family trip out to the Black Hills area of South Dakota. We are Hilton Honors members, and there was an option for us within an hour either was of Luverne, but who can pass up "new" and "suites", right???

The hotel is immaculate (as would be expected for a property that was two months old). The king suites worked perfect with a 3 and 5 year old. The sofa bed was easy to use, kitchen well stocked, and the king bed in the separate bedroom was firm but well cushioned.

All staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful, and the young lady who checked us in even offered a variety of restaurant choices in the area when we asked. The morning breakfast provided a wide variety of continental options that all tasted great, including sausages, eggs, and waffles for warm options. The breakfast added great value for our family at a $129 room rate.

The only down side - there needs to be better supervision/monitoring of the pool area. We left after about 30 minutes after a group of drunk adults were around between weddings and the receptions, hanging out by the pool with lots of kids, but with one hand on their "beverage" and the other on a cigarette or two... most provided no real supervision, and not all of the young kids were well behaved. The pool door to the outside patio area was propped open, and people sort of came in and out as they pleased... they smoked outside and at times just inside the door such that you could smell it on the other side of the pool area. The hotel might want to consider a camera (or better use of it) to monitor what is going on in there since it can't be seen directly from the check-in area. Our boys had really been looking forward to using the pool for a chunk of the evening, but we didn't feel comfortable in there, and stopped swimming a lot earlier than we wanted to after spending a full day driving in a car.

Despite the negative encounter with the pool area, would we stay here again? Yes. It was the best night sleep I had on our seven night trip, and a wonderful breakfast that was better than I have sometimes had to pay extra for at a Hilton... Nice little town - consider it as an alternative stop to Sioux Falls when traveling through SW Minnesota of SE South Dakota.

Thank you for visiting GrandStay Hotel & Suites of Luverne and for choosing to stay at the hotel even though there are other options nearby. The hotel is perfectly located for a stop to the Black Hills, Sturgis, and other South Dakota locations!

The staff is great and we love to make the experience memorable. We hope you will consider staying again upon your return.

We are sorry a few other guests disturbed your pool and swimming time. No matter where you stay, please contact the front desk if you feel other guests are being disruptive. All guests should be respectful of one another.

The hotel is located right off the interstate. When we arrived the front desk staff greeted us immediately. Every time I walked by the front desk area they’d ask if they could answer any questions or if everything was going OK.

The room was spacious and clean, we stayed in a king room. The room had a large flat screen TV, a refrigerator, and microwave, too. They have nice pool area with a big pool and a Jacuzzi that could accommodate 10.

They have a nice continental breakfast, which was well stocked. They offered scrambled or hard boiled eggs, fresh waffles, bacon, and an assortment of cereals, pastries, and yogurts.

I thought this was a nice hotel at a very reasonable price. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel.

We pulled into this hotel late at night after a long day of driving and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were nice looking, comfortable, and clean, and the breakfast was a nice plus.

A great family stay. We reserved a king one bedroom suite and it was perfect for us and our two small children. The 3 year old slept on the pull out couch and the baby in a porta crib. We enjoyed a private king bedroom. We loved having the refrigerator and kitchen in our room as well as two tv's. The continental breakfast was good and the pool area and hot tub we nice for our family. Note our room was on the second floor at the end and we weren't able to connect to the WiFi there but it worked just fine at in the pool area. So if WiFi is important be sure to check your room location.

We were driving through South Dakota, looking for a place to stay. We decided to pass Sioux Falls, and head into Minnesota. I'm glad we did! We found the GrandStay Hotel and Suites, which just opened in May 2013. We got a room with two queen beds for just under $90 plus tax, which was far less than in Sioux Falls. The hotel was easy to find, the desk clerk very friendly, the room clean, and the beds comfortable. The hotel has breakfast the next morning, which consisted of sausage, eggs, and fresh waffles.

My only complaint is that they only have one luggage cart, and when we left, another family used it for over an hour, so we had to lug everything out in several trips.

Overall, if we were in the area, we'd definitely stay again!

We stayed two nights while attending a family reunion in Luverne. I booked the hotel based on the website. The staff were really friendly and helpful - that is the best part of this hotel. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and cool. We paid a little over $100/night (incl. tax) and felt like we didn't quite get what we paid for. This is the most expensive hotel in the area, so we were expecting something a step above the Comfort Inn. We had some concerns with housekeeping that were addressed quickly by the staff. We also had our toilet tank malfunction causing some minor flooding in the bathroom. The staff responded to our request that they look at it (which they did), but the problem kept occurring and we kept having to remove the toilet tank cover to stop the spraying. That's not something a hotel guest should have to do.The hotel does seem to be a bit understaffed with the front desk clerk also stripping beds and cleaning up the breakfast area. There are also some cosmetic oddities that one wouldn't expect to find in a brand new hotel (exposed screws in the guest room walls that could easily be patched and painted, fraying carpet in the elevator, a guest room door that doesn't close completely unless pushed/pulled firmly.) I would recommend this hotel if you're passing through town and want a comfortable, clean, friendly (but pricey) place to stay. But for $20 less you could go across the street and get the same experience, just not as new.

Thank you for staying at the GrandStay Hotel & Suites of Luverne for your family reunion. Our staff is very proud of the hotel and respond quickly to any issue that may arise, which we are glad to read they did for you. As with any new building, there are a few minor items to correct and we are diligently addressing them. We appreciate you pointing a few minor items. There are other hotels in the area for you to choose and we are thankful you chose our hotel, which we know and believe is the best and worth the stay.

Room was spacious and clean. Bed was very comfortable. The front desk was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with a nice selection. We called late at night while traveling and got a room for $80.00 plus tax. Great price for such a nice place.
