“Wonderful stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

I almost didn't stay because of some other reviews, but I am glad I decided to. The reviewers who were complaining about the "god talk", just ignore them. I saw little evidence of what they were talking about and what I did see was nothing to get bothered about.

The location is excellent. Lake Superior is literally right across the street and there are lots of rocks for you to sit on and enjoy the lake. There are many hiking trails that start right behind or next to the lodge - short and long trails.

I stayed in the lodge itself. Is this place new? Not at all. Is it run down? Again, no, just well-worn, maybe, but very clean. My bed was comfy, the bathroom was "new" (although tiny), I had a fridge, space, thick towels and the shower head was high enough up for a very tall person. They do have a computer to use in the lobby, but I had a hard time connecting to the wireless network with my laptop. But then again, I wasn't there for electronic connections. My room had a view of the lake, which was awesome, but, just so you know, you are also facing the street, which is really a highway and fairly busy.

Would I stay there again? Absolutely!

Great, gorgeous
setting in Cascade State park, and now you can get a cocktail-yes, that's right, the formerly dry Cascade Lodge now boasts a full bar!
Great for hikers, couples, families.
Cell phone reception is bad-but that's a good thing for those who want to get away from it all!!

Room Tip: This reosrt has a variety of room types from hotel type rooms in the lodge to multi room cabins suit...

Enjoyed the Lodge again for Fourth of July week. This time we upgraded a bit and rented
a large cabin on the creek. It was a good decision. Two bedrooms with a nice bathroom equiped with a whirlpool bath. The cabin was roomy and had a nice kitchen as well. The best part is the deck overlooking Cacade Creek. Natures air conditioning with the cool air from the stream. It's great fun to hike up the stream in the water in July. You have a very private setting in the cabins at the lodge. Staff is always friendly and they have live music in the restaurant
on various evenings. Food is good and their breakfast has won a award. We saw two moose near the lodge while coming and going. Very much a surprise! Cabins have movie channels and popular cable channels like the Weather Channel which is important on a trip.
Going back for Fall color week in October. That is just the best time for hiking and colorful leaves.

My fiance and I went to Cascade Lodge on a Living Social coupon, the price was amazing for what we received. First night our bed was undesirable, but went to talk to front desk the next morning and we're moved into a more updated room. We received free rental of canoes, disc golf, biking and a free breakfast for two. We did the canoeing, the owner loaded up the canoe onto our vehicle for us and one of the maintenance workers gave us some insight as to where to go fishing. Fishing was good! The restaurant next door ( part of the Lodge ) had really good home cooked food and the happy hour was nice as well. The staff was great and polite. The lodge is old but has charm and character. The owners are remodeling the guest rooms in the main lodge, so I suggest inquiring about those prior to check in. The rooms in main lodge are cozy, but we only slept there as there were so many activities and trails to explore. The owner of the resort let us build a fire ring out of rocks on the shore and our last night was spent enjoying a moon lit fire with the wonderful sound of waves crashing.

Room Tip: Talk to the front desk upon check in and maybe even visit rooms that are open before choosing.

Nice place. Nothing too fancy. Excellent location for many hike options without having to drive anywhere. Restaurant 100 feet away had great happy hour and very good food. Our room was fine - clean, which is number one on my list - but the floors were super creaky. Nice people. We'd stay there again if we were headed to the North Shore for a few days of hiking or skiing. They have lodge rooms or cabins. We stayed in the lodge.

I have going the Cascade lodge for 11 years. I can't image going anywhere else. The owners have poured their heart and soul into updated the place without taking away the charm. I have stayed in cabins 2,3, and 11. and the motel units. It is amazing to wake up and see that beautful lake and have access to the trails in our backyard. The hike to the falls or lookout mt is beautiful no matter what time of year. Follow the trail behind the resturant, you won't be dissappointed. The staff is hardworking and go out of their way to make your visit worthwhile. I have not seen it in the winter but have plans to.Yes, the cell phone is sketchy but who cares....you are on vacation and the phones at the lodge work and can be reached in an emergency.

Room Tip: any cabin or room

Stayed for a few nights this month in the "motel" building. It was nice and as described. The rooms were kept up nice. The owners appear to doing a lot to upgrade the facility and installed some dividers between the A, B, and C units. The property has great history and with the upgrades being made is set for years to come. As others have said the wifi (which is only available in the lodge) is quite slow, but I was there to get away from technology so that wasn't that big of a deal. I would encourage the owners to look into DSL service which I think may finally be offered up there. The restaurant offered great food (the burgers were really good) and the hiking trails from their property connect to a great network of Superior National Forest trails. Keep up the great work Cascade!

Room Tip: Check the descriptions on their site, some cabins are newer than others.
