My son and I spent three days the first week in February at the Caribou. He is the skier, not me. There was abundant snow, but we had very mild sunny weather. The ski in-out feature alone make this the ideal home for the snow lovers, including snomobiling or snow boarding. The rooms were nice, and the lodge was very comfortable. Some remodeling is overdue, but the lodge is by no means dumpy. The bar and restaurant were superb. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. Breakfasts are hearty and well prepared. Deer hang out right outside your dining room windows! There are two nice hot tubs and a heated indoor pool. In the pool building you can find a wonderful gift shop with espresso drinks and some light food items! There is also a small game room and yes...WIRELESS INTERNET for an hourly fee of $3.95. You get a complimentary 15 minutes at check-in. Nearby, is a large bar and restaurant with three outdoor patios, spectacular views and easy access to the slopes. Also, a large ski shop with everything you could possibly need. All in all, a great property in a beautiful location and great mid-week rates. You will really enjoy the Caribou Highlands Resort!

My wife and I and our 6 and 3 year old just returned from a weeks stay at the Caribou Highlands Resort. We stayed in the Poplar Ridge Homes. We were very impressed with the accomodations, the kids activities, and the natural beauty of the area. It was our second visit to the Caribou Highlands. Partly due to outstanding weather (80s in the day and 50s at night), this stay was even better than our last.

The only part of the resort that we were not thoroughly satisfied with was the restaurant on premises. The good news is that there are many dining options nearby. Papa Charlies was walking distance and was very good. The Coho Cafe is outstanding for casual dining as is the Poplar River Pub, and the restuarants at Lutsen Resort and Blue Finn Bay are also very good.

The area is an outstanding destination, and Caribou Highlands is a great place to stay especially if you want a variety of activities to go along with the natural beauty.

May 2004 - We have never been to the Lutsen area before deciding to visit Caribou Highlands Resort. Lots of activities for the kids, great accommodations in a beautiful Popular Ridge Home. Deer right outside our door, the rushing Popular river below, and the soaring view of Moose Mountain with Lake Superior as the backdrop. Everything you need is provided, right down to the paper and kindling for your fireplace. Enjoy!

I stayed at Caribou Highlands with my mother in July. Our mountain view room had an incredible view, and the room itself was adequate (much like any hotel). The exceptional parts of Caribou Highlands include their restaurant (delicious food and great prices!) and their numerous pools and whirlpools. I personally prefer to stay on the lake in the summertime, but for a winter stay, Caribou is perfect!

We have stayed at the Caribou Highland resort in both Summer and Winter seasons. The resort itself offers a range of units for rent. During our last visit, 2 families (4 Adults & 4 kids) stayed in a 3-level Superior Townhouse. The unit was very clean with sleeping accomodations of a master suite loft, 2 BR & 2 bath in the lower level, and a hide-a-bed on the main floor.

The resort staff is very friendly and helpful. They seem to employ a lot of international students so sometimes you have to cut through the accent. There are 2 swimming pools (indoor and outdoor) which is nice because the weather can really vary from day-to-day. The on-site bar/resturant is good and if you're looking for some nightlife with live music it is a short walk to Pappa Charlies. For the kids the resort has cable tv and has an extensive video collection they loan out.

In the summer they offer a great kids program with lots of activities for the whole family. During our 4 day summer stay, we went with our 4 and 7 year olds on a guided canoe trip one day, hiking on the Superior Trail another and participated in the camp fire activities in the evenings.

We have stayed at the resort for skiing as well. There is no better place to stay if you are skiing at Lutsen. The facilities are ski-in and ski out. The pool/spa area is great and the Townhouses have thier own seperate hot tub building. The resort provides firewood for the fireplaces.

There are two other good places to stay on the North Shore, Lusten Resot and Bluefin. Caribou Highlands is not right on Lake Superior but the kid and family programs, hiking, biking, and skiing make it a great place to stay.
