“Best Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We hike gentle trails of most parks on the North Shore. If you like waterfalls, this is a fantastic park. you can go gentle (meaning a walking hike with some steps and trail that have some roots etc.) Or difficult, steep with rocks to climb.

“Cascade River State Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We were on a road trip around Lake Superior, (Great Vacation!). We had just left Grand Maris driving on Hwy. 61. We spent a short time at the park to stretch our legs, and get in a short hike. The Ranger there gave us directions to a nice loop trail that took us to a nice viewing area to watch the cascades along the river. Even with the thunder and lightning in the distance the hike was well worth it. A very nice trail, great scenery and the rushing cascades made for a great hike despite the rain storm.
This area has so much to offer with such great parks and natural scenery.

“Stay to the left for better views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

The Cascade River offers a relatively easy hike with absolutely, spectacular views of this raging river. Although there are several trails, I would suggest walking up the left side of the river, and instead of crossing it, as the park people will tell you, simply turn around and walk back the way you came. The left side provides far better views. There was one spot where we looked down at the water from a bridge and the river appeared to look as though it was showing us a view of North and South America from outer space - of course water levels dictate these types of things. You could do this nice little hike in an hour, but slow down and take two hours. You'll thank yourself when you've finished. Take bug spray.

“Beautiful State Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Excellent State Park. Hiking is excellent, anything from short hikes along Cascade River to long hikes inland. Not too far from Grand Marais either which is a big plus for wife who needs balance of nature and civilization. I hope to travel the 800 miles again some summer and stay here again.

“Beautiful cascading falls”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

A series of beautiful cascading falls can be viewed with just a brief 10 minute round trip hike from free roadside parking along highway 61. A lookout point and bridge across the river can be reached with just a moderate 300 foot hike (one direction). Even if you are short on time you can still see an amazing view.

Across highway 61, you can easily walk to the Lake Superior shore and walk along the rocks. The shore is rocky and relatively flat (compared to the cliffs of Tettegouche State Park, for example). It is a nice area to relax and picnic (tables provided). The water stays pretty cold - it was 37 degrees when we visited in July, though the air temp was in the high 70's and low 80's.

Definitely worth a stop and hike!
