“Beautiful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

I found this park very scenic and beutiful! There is a short little trail you can take to get a taste of what the park is like. There are lots of waterfalls along the river. It is really beautiful and great for pictures. You can cross the road and see where the river meets the lake - it's really quite scenic there! It was extremely enjoyable and a great place to stop along Highway 61!

“Nice park!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

It was a busy park, especially for a mid week visit in August. The campsites are pretty close to another, and we had some neighbors that were loud. The bathrooms and showers weren't bad. They were relatively clean. The hiking was great. The trails along the river had some excellent spurs where you could get right up to the river. There were spots along the trail where I just had to stop and smell the forest. We also did the hike up to Lookout Mountain, which was fun and not too strenuous. In the evenings we followed the trail along Lake Superior. It was very uncrowded and afforded great views of the lakes.

“Never ending cascades”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012 via mobile

Just a short walk up the path and you start seeing the cascades and with every turn another great view. I took a ton of pictures walking up and back down again. Well worth the short hike.

“Lookout Mountain Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

When I entered the park, I checked in with the Park Ranger office to get a map and advice. I wanted a moderate trail that was about 3 miles round trip. The Ranger was very helpful, and told me the land marks to look for when going up. My only problem was I did not take enough water, so it took me a little longer to get up the trail. There is a nice breeze once you get up there. Tip: as you go up the side of the mountain, make sure you stop and look behind you because there are great views of Lake Superior. The water falls are a root beer brown color, and there are placards explaining the cause of the color. The berry's along the trail that "look like" blueberry's are not. Also: when you drive into the park, there is a required $5 park pass purchase, and it is good all day at any of the other MN State Parks. There are a variety of trails that vary in length and difficulty. Just ask the Ranger.

“Thought it was something more.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

I like going on hike's in search of waterfalls and amazing views and this place has a little bit of both, just a little. We wanted to go to Lookout Mountain and see what that is all about but we're not even sure if we were in the right place. The signs up towards the top aren't very good so we were just guessing we were in the right spot. We didn't have time to do the full loop around but that looked like it could have had some very nice sights. The waterfalls and different parts of the river are very cool though and they are just a short walk from the parking lot so those would be worth it!
