“OK for lodging, not a gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

Positives that make it acceptable lodging...nice proprietors, central location, clean rooms, A/C, rooms have good sound insulation, chocolate chip cookies. Totally fine if this is the only place with rooms...feel confident booking it.

Some downsides...Our mattress sagged in the middle. The breakfast was tasty but remarkably spare for guests who likely will spend much of the day exercising - really should add some additional fruit or protein options for filler. Don't worry if you don't get the "river view" rooms - small windows in the far end of the room look out on the car bridge and a little of the river. I guess I don't begrudge the proprietors their desire to blend in some of their years in HI, but those touches do feel a little forced and odd. Chalk some of these up to being a little picky, but they're the reasons I wasn't able to give it a 5 star.

In response to this review by the author, it should be noted that the meals we serve in our restaurant are complementary with no charge to the guests and are a healthy quantity averaging between 450 and 600 calories. The quantity of food we serve is gauged by a majority our guests responses and as we do not cook to order, everyone gets an adequate, healthy quantity of high quality food. For those who want steak and eggs for breakfast, we are happy to make recommend options in Lanesboro for that.

Spent August 14 & 15, 2013 at Mrs. B's for our 39th anniversary in room #5. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Room was super clean - shower was small in our room (for my 6'3" husband) but we knew that from photos before we booked. The lobby is comfy and always had chocolate chip cookies available for guests. Our breakfast was delicious - French toast with strawberries one morning and Dutch apple pancakes the 2nd day. Also coffee & juice. We could have stored our bikes at the Inn but just kept them on the car. Location is excellent to walk anywhere in town and to get on the bike trails. Owners, Terry & Ginger, were friendly and helpful with suggestions.

Mrs. B's is like a Buddhist retreat dressed as a bed and breakfast.  For me it was "off the grid" since Lanesboro has no AT&T cellular service and Mrs. B's wireless network only worked once at about 3 a.m.  [Terry, the innkeeper, indicated it is frequently a problem.]  Breakfast is lovely, but spare.  On our first morning it was a slice of potato and spinach fritata, a 1/2 slice of pineapple, juice and coffee.  The charming garden behind the Inn stretches down to the Root River and has several benches perfect for meditation.  And the Inn is adjacent to a wonderful art gallery.  In the center of a town known for outdoor activities such as biking, tubing, canoeing and ice cream eating, the Inn perfectly located.

We appreciate the reflection. As new owners, Trish and I are adding new menu items as well as amplifying the portions. Our high speed internet is also running for our guests:) We appreciate the compliments on the garden and hope to see you in the near future:) Matthew and Trish

Building is nice and old. Grounds are small but nice view of river. Liked that they had a really cool feline area for their pet cats..

But...

Decorating inside is confusing. Has Hawaiian, asian, victorian, french accents. Busy wallpaper throughout. Our room had a gas fireplace, which was not working.

Food was.....sparse. What was given was..only okay. Very limited food!!! We had to eat again within an hour. We are not big eaters...but come on..one smiley face plate of fruit and one small piece of egg strata bake..geez.

The proprietors are fried. They need to get out of this business asap. !

Not the first experience I wanted for my boyfriend's first B & B experience...

Room Tip: got nothin

Thank you for your feedback, Kristen. As the NEW owners of this magnificent property, please let me assure you this reflection did not fall on deaf ears. We have taken steps to implement a more area friendly and congruent atmosphere...we have also amplified the menu, and as an organic chef I believe the menu will improve in quality and quantity. We would love the opportunity to change your mind with the renewed energy we are bringing to the Inn...Matthew and Trish

The B&B was wonderful as were the hosts that were very helpful. The rooms were nice and I can truly say that the bed was one of the best that we had ever slept on in a hotel. The location was excellent as all of the restaurants/shops are within a block. Also, it is right across the street from the bike trail.

Room Tip: We liked the room that we had on the second floor as we heard no noise at all during the night.

A friend and I rode our bikes some 50 miles and as we arrived it Lanesboro it started to rain. Our wonderful hosts at Mrs Bs provided a place to put our bikes to keep them safe and out of the elements. The location is right down town and close to the bike trail. The hospitality is what truly impressed us! Thanks for a great stay!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

We had visited the Lanesboro area for many years mainly for a day trip doing a short ride on the bike trails and some shopping and dining. This year we decided to do an overnight stay and this B&B was a top pick having eaten at it many years back (apparently there were multiple owners in the late 90s and early 00s, but things have settled down now and it's in very good shape and nicely decorated overall). After a great meal at a restaurant down the block, we enjoyed a quiet evening in our 2nd story room. Owners Terry & Ginger were available when needed and we had a friendly chat after a delicious breakfast. They have two crazy cats living outside just under some bushes full of birds that keeps the cats fairly animated. There are some excellent chocolate chip cookies available during the day. We had no problems with any room amenities; plenty of soap, lights all worked, but do bring your own hairdryer. They are getting replacement screens (bugs are bad in the fall) but the building has central air/heat and we were comfortable, did not use the fireplace.

Room Tip: Stay on the first floor if you have heavy bags and realize breakfast is in a lower level.
