“quiet neighbourhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

This B&B is in town so there will be some traffic noise of cars going up and down the street. It was quiet during the night but noise of cars passing started about 6:30 a.m. This likely affected us more than the other guests because our room was right at the front of the house, with a private entrance off of the front veranda. We requested a room with no stairs, and were glad we did. The access to the room was great and it was very easy to bring in and out the luggage.
The bathroom was quite tiny, and the shower small so that it was hard not to get water all over the floor. But this was compensated by having a large bedroom and a separate sitting area with TV. We enjoyed having so much space. However, when it came to where to put suitcases and set out our toiletries, there was a problem.
There was a entire wall of drawers and cupboards beside the bed, but they were full of the owners antiques and collectibles. As often happens with B&Bs, the owner of this B&B has lots of cute collectibles that she decorates the rooms with. There was a dresser but it was largely unuseable. The top was covered with ornaments and a guest book to sign, so there was little space for guests to place their toiletries or personal items. We moved some items off it to make a bit of room for our own things.
I brought a small chair from the sitting room, and placed it by the bed as a beside table. We put our suitcases on two of the armchairs in the sitting room. We draped dressing gowns over the metal heater in the room. I did not see a closet for our use - but maybe I missed it.
On the upside, Karen and Ron are so welcoming and friendly that you feel right at home She served an excellent breakfast and there is a charming garden around the house. Billy is a friendly dog who loves attention, and as we were missing our little dog which we had to leave at home, he did get quite a few pats from us.

Room Tip: We had the Captains Quarters on the main floor, with a private entrance off the veranda. Very handy...

I can't recall when I last stayed at a B&B right in town, so I wasn't sure what to expect. This lovely home in a quiet neighborhood did not disappoint.
I was happy with the Captain's Room downstairs. Just off of the dining area, it was very convenient to get refills of hot water for tea - and a couple more homemade peanut butter cookies.
The room itself ( along with all the others I toured) was designed nicer than a model home, yet not over the top or too kitchy / themed as sometimes is seen in B&B's.
Bed was very comfortable. Flat-screen TV was on a rolling low wicker cabinet so it could be viewed from bed, or from the chairs in the adjacent sitting room which looked out onto the front yard and porch.I didn't need to turn on the portable radiator but found it was just the right height as a lap top desk when sitting in the comfortable wing back chair (!). There was a proper desk and chair in this area as well.
Having gutted and remodelled a large house and a condo in the last few years, I was pleased to see the great attention paid to finishing detail. The walk in shower had amazing and beautiful tile work. The young man staying upstairs also remarked on the fine workmanship in their room.
Breakfast was delicious and hearty, consisting of individual sausage omelettes, fresh fruit and a fruit pastry akin to a berry coffee cake.
Ron and Karen were very upbeat and friendly and it was a delight to talk with them. I also enjoyed catering to the whims of their dog Billy, who obviously needed a full-time belly-rubber. Not sure if they are posting such a position, however.
When in the area, you can't go wrong if you decide to stay in this attractive home.

Ron and Karen made us feel really comfortable. They arranged for tickets to the Reif performing centre. The play "The Doll. house was terrific. The social wine and hors'douvres were welcomed in the late afternoon. A three course breakfast was delicious. The suite Champagne and Roses was more than comfortable and spacious. The B&B is handy to local art galleries and the old downtown. We look forward to returning.

We have been staying at Morning Glory every year for years. We always choose the Roses and Champagne room. The owners Karen & Ron are so accommodating and the nicest people. The property is so convenient to downtown shopping which Grand Rapids offers cute boutiques and also stores guys love too. The rooms are very spacious with great attention to detail - decorated Victorian - great linens and bed - the perfect rest place. Very quiet and private. The breakfast is amazing you will not leave hungry - and impeciable presentation. This place is a must! If you are first-time bed and breakfast guests like we once were - you will be so glad you chose this over a hotel. You will never be disappointed. Grand Rapids has many choices for outdoor activities and fine restaurants. The Morning Glory is Grand Rapids best kept secret!

Room Tip: The Roses & Champagne Room is very large with a double jacuzzi. Bed is large with super linens...

We were on a two week road trip which was a mix of camping, family visits, and B&Bs. After camping for four days we were especially thrilled with the comfy and pretty suite (Champagne and Roses room) and the jacuzzi. As a tea drinker, I was especially charmed with the assortment of Harvey and Sons gourmet teas, herbal teas, and 24 h access to hot water from the water cooler. (and a tin of homemade cookies left out with the tea- wow!) Pancakes in the morning had an interesting twist of flavor, homemade and hearty with fresh fruit. The Morning Glory is on a quiet residential street but close to everything. What a great find!

This was like staying at my childhood home. We loved the Champagne and Roses Suite with the jacuzzi and the fireplace. We snuggled in front of the fire and enjoyed the dessert we brought back from the restaurant. We were intrigued by what these walls had seen and heard in the years that a family of 10 children grew up in this house. Plan a "Mystery Date" for your spouse by visiting Grand Rapids, MN. Enjoy a wonderful dinner and show at the Reif Performing Arts Theater and then return to this peaceful sanctuary. The morning breakfast was an exquisite delight for our taste buds. Karen is charming and gracious. I think a Sister Trip will be my next experience, in the summer, so I can enjoy the gardens.

Room Tip: Next time we might try the spacious upstairs room with a north woods theme. It looks great!

Pulling up to the Morning Glory Bed and Breakfast, It was not your typical grand Victorian estate, but a large, beautiful home, appealing even from the curb with its dignified colonial style.

We stayed in the Champagne and Roses Suite, (not room, never call this just a "room"). The jacuzzi tub was extremely comfortable and soothing, the details in the decor were amazing, highlighted by a beautiful Christmas flavor. The Suite was very clean, uncluttered, and spacious. The sitting area housed the most comfortable, snugly loveseat I've ever had the pleasure of using!
Snacks and beverages, hot or cold, were immediately available. We had Chai Tea and hot chocolate with our homemade cookies. It was a pleasant late afternoon pick-me-up! Our host and hostess were informative, extremely attentive, but not hovering. They were available near the glowing and warm natural fireplace in the living room and had put out fresh trays of sausage, cheeses, dips, crackers, sodas, and wine. The conversation with Karen and Ron was as comforting and effortless as a visit to grandma's. She made our dinner reservations at the suggested restaurant, which lived up to all her recommendations.

The home and grounds were beautifully decorated for Christmas. Even though I didn't experience the gardens in bloom, the lights on trellis along the winding path gave me the idea it was the tip of the iceberg, baiting me to return for the whole show in the summer.

The bed was comfortable, sheets super soft, and wireless connection supplied the guests with service to all electronic devices.

Coffee was ready well ahead of breakfast, and I took full advantage of it. Aromas of fresh muffins kindly beckoned us as we dressed for the day, and they did not disappoint. The fresh fruit cup was delicious, even though it was winter. Personal ramekins of broccoli/egg/cheese and sausage were delicious, The apple cake with rum sauce was something my husband will never forget.

It was hard to leave the comfort and beauty of this B&B treasure. Even as a native Minnesotan, I have never been to Grand Rapids. It's a trip off the beaten path, worth every minute to get there. I would re-book at the first opportunity.

Room Tip: Choose the Champagne and Roses room for the Jacuzzi, and a relaxing soak.
