I used to really like to go the lunch buffet for the best sweet and sour pork ever. But I have completely avoided Hoban for several years due to one occasion of bad service. I thought they could have improved so I showed up before noon on a Monday, knowing latecomers can find little to eat. Thankfully the small buffet was full and almost untouched as the restaurant was nearly empty. My favorite S&S pork was there, but the usually crispy coating had turned to a goo from sitting in cold sauce. The tender thinly sliced beef with green herbs and rice flour dumpling slices made up for it and was really great. I usually love their soup. But this time it was lots of long strands of slimy green seaweed sparsely populated with strips of, hopefully, beef. Kind of a surf and turf combo. I had a hard time with it's strong ocean smell and slimy texture but the taste was okay. The young man serving me was nice. A lady came out to ask how everything was and I summoned the courage to mention that several items were cold or nearly room temperature. She and the young man went to check the hot tables. I think I am done with the buffet but want to try the menu.
