Last night I invited a friend to join me for one last dinner out for 2015 at a neighborhood favorite, Andiamo. I arranged to meet her there at 6:45 p.m. (I'd made a reservation.), but she somehow heard "Pick me up at 6:45 p.m.", so I sat in the restaurant waiting and waiting, while she sat in front of my home waiting, as this comedy of errors played out. I had been seated at a nice booth near the cozy fireplace and our very attentive waiter made sure that I was comfortable, assuring me that there was no rush to order while I waited for my friend for approximately 30 minutes. Andiamo is a small, neighborhood restaurant where the wait for a table can be long, but last evening the atmosphere was busy, festive (quit a few large parties), yet relaxed and laid back. To make a long story short and to get to the best part of this story (the food and the service) she finally made it to the restaurant after a bit of phone tag! Hooray! I ordered my favorites, a calamari starter and "Chicken Andiamo" for my entree, while my dining companion ordered the wonderful spaghetti and meatballs. The calamari rings, whole tiny squid, and peppers were breaded lightly, fried to perfection and served with a tangy, fresh tomato sauce and lemon wedges. Superb! My chicken entree consisted of two breasts, flattened, topped with prosciutto, then cooked in a light, buttery sauce with capers and artichokes. Divine! I love mashed potatoes, but I have mine with the lightly sauteed veggies on the side instead. Portion sizes are good, so after packing up the leftovers, I settled the bill. Did I mention that I used an "Entertainment" book coupon, so the already reasonable bill was further reduced? Yeah. If you don't have coupons and even if you do and don't wish to use them for a particular visit, I recommend visiting during one of their two Happy Hours when many apps are half off (Try the awesome pizzas!). See you in 2016! Happy New Year!
