“Good but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Overall the hotel was good however the price we paid for a one night stay on the weekend was expensive. The location isn't the greatest but there is a good mexican restaurant within walking distance. The breakfast was good. Beside pricing everything else was good.

The good: Everything is very clean. Our room had new carpeting and linoleum. The shower had nice water pressure and the water got plenty hot. Noise from other rooms can't be heard much, especially with the fan from the unit on. The desk clerk was friendly.

The bad: The parking lot is full of really big potholes. The WiFi is very slow, at least from my room. The drain in the sink was almost completely clogged.

Room Tip: Ask for a north- or south-facing room, if possible. The sun comes in very brightly.

My husband, son, and I stayed here basically just for a place to crash. We were visiting relatives for a graduation party that live about 15-20 minutes out of Duluth. Pulling up to the hotel, it did not look like much, but it was pouring rain and we just wanted to get inside.

I was very surprised by our room. The carpet, bed linens, and furniture were all updated and modern. It was clean and tidy. The only thing that wasn't update was the bathroom, which was a little small with vinyl flooring circa 1990, but it was still clean and did the trick.

I thought the beds were comfortable and we had a quiet room. We all slept well.

The breakfast the next morning was also more than I expected: waffles, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, cereal, muffins, toast, bagels, English muffins, coffee, juice, and some fruit. The breakfast staff was busy changing things out and bringing in fresh food. I always like to see that.

The pool was not bad, either. The hot tub was pretty big and was not scalding hot, and the big pool was nice and warm. We have a 4-year-old son who loves pools, so it was really nice to be able to take him swimming and not have him shivering and freezing cold within five minutes of being in there.

Any staff I talked to was helpful and nice.

Overall, don't expect luxury standards with this hotel, but if you're just passing through and need a place to crash, this should do the trick. Like some others have said, it might not look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. They have actually done a nice job with restoring the interior.

I think that this hotel may have gone through a recent remodel, based on the reviews I have been reading.

We stayed here the first night of our vacation and found it a pleasant experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room was clean as was the rest of the motel. The only negative was the parking lot. It definitely needs repair.
The pool was warm and we enjoyed relaxing after traveling with children. Breakfast the following morning was good. Perhaps the fact that they do not have an onsite restaurant made for a better breakfast.
We would not hesitate to book here again.

I stayed here a few years ago and found it run-down. However, we decided to take another chance when bad weather slowed our return home. Our room was very modern and clean. the bed was comfortable. there are 3 minor problems though
1. the shower water that never got warm…..but it wakes you up!
2. a few more electrical outlets would be appreciated. Only 2 plug-ins at the sink and one had the hairdryer and the other with the coffee maker.
3. improve the quality of the eggs and potatoes for the breakfast. Seems like "fast food" but very dried out. great waffles though.
The staff was great and friendly. Being next to the Maya restaurant is a nice option for Mexican food.
We would definitely stay here again!

If you are looking for great value for your money stay here. Hotel is close to all amenities. It is clean and well kept. Breakfast is very good. Very friendly staff who always greet you with a smile and a friendly hello. Check in fast and easy. I would like to thank Alex for all his help when we go to the Economy Lodge. He is one of the nicest young people I have met in a long time, always helpful and always friendly. The hotel has started changing furniture and beds in one section and we had the opportunity to stay at this side. Very nicely done. Beds are very comfortable.
