“Overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

It must be great to be a motel owner in Duluth. You can take advantage of the cheap labor and costs of doing business that come from being in the Upper Midwest, yet you can command outrageous prices for your product. I guess I could understand an EconoLodge being more than $100 a night (I actually saw some poor sucker coming in on a Friday night and paying $140 a night!) But, in fact, $100-110 for the Econo Lodge is not out of the question when you look at what the Radisson and Comfort Suites and other more "upscale" places are getting. It's supply and demand. Someone needs to add several hundred more hotel rooms to that market right now,

That said, the Econo Lodge offers friendly personnel, a nice breakfast in a nice breakfast room and a pool and "whirlpool," the latter of which is actually hot water being gently swirled around by a few jets. It's nice, but perhaps not the muscle-relaxing experience you'd hoped for.

The room was average. The bed was okay, nothing special. The room was quiet except when a truck was warming up its motor outside the window. There was a small refrigerator and microwave, which was a plus. The bathroom was clean but the shower was underpowered. We found it hard to regulate the heat, in part because the control was not a thermostat but just a knob that you turned.

In short, I've stayed in this area before and have always been mystified by by the high prices. This place is no worse than the rest, and at least they seem to be good folks who try to take care of their customers.

Clean rooms at a great price, friendly staff, God breakfast in the mornings a well. The beds were comfortable and the linen was almost brand new! You can tell they are constantly doing up grades to this place. I will only stay at the Econo Lodge when in Duluth!

They only had a smoking room open and I don't smoke. Not good. The smell was awfull. I wouldn't stay there again if all they had was a smoking room again. The water pressure wasn't very good in the shower and you couldn't switch it to tub to try to get the soap out of my hair. But that being said, the breakfast was good, the people were nice. Is located on the top of the hill, never stayed there before in Duluth. More normal shops there not the tourist trap down the hill.

Not very good - paid as much or more as a Marriott at other locations on our vacation - don't know why Duluth is so expensive!
Had a 2nd floor room - no elevator, had to carry bags upstairs.
Mold on shower curtain.
Plus - it did have a frig!
Room floor/bed were not too clean.

Room Tip: Stay on the ground floor.

Quiet, clean, with great staff that always try to please and a good breakfast and coffee. Also good WiFi. Refrigerator and microwave in all rooms. Exercise room and pool also available along with lobby computer to internet.

Room Tip: Higher room numbers take care of any smoke issues and there's a separate wing just off the entra...

I travel to Duluth often and will only stay at the Econo Lodge. The staff and management are friendly, courteous, and efficient. The rooms are clean, well maintained, and comfortable. It's my “home away from home” and I highly recommend it to anyone!

Stayed for Bayfront Blues festival when all rooms in city get booked. Came in late/left early. Kinda hard to find the turn into the lot when it's dark. The room and beds were very adequate. Breakfast simple but satisfactory. Only problem was while they have non-smoking rooms the smoke from those in which they allow smoking permeates the hallway and into the other rooms.
